An important part of canine physiotherapy is getting dogs to feel so relaxed they drift off to sleep during their session and of course giving them as many chin scratches as they want 🐾

With the 25/26 season finished, supporting our hard working gundogs as they enter their post season recovery is very important.

Maintenance during the ‘off’ season means we can keep our dogs in top condition ahead of the next season and keep them feeling the best they can 💪🏼

Rest combined with physiotherapy allows our working dogs to recover fully - helping tired muscles recover, preventing hidden aches, and supporting long-term soundness and performance, because recovery matters just as much as the work!

Long-lining

An underrated form of groundwork that often gets dropped once a horse has been broken in and usually only revisited during rehabilitation.

However, it is one of my FAVOURITE regular groundwork tools 🙌🏼

~ Develops balance, straightness, self-carriage & strength — without the weight of a rider
~ Allows the handler to refine communication and clarify aids

Watching a horse walk from behind lets you see everything 👀
How each hind leg steps through, limb straightness and placement, how the back is moving/swinging, muscle tone, and areas of hind-end atrophy — information you can only get from behind.

My horses have done weekly long-lining sessions for years, often paired with walking poles for an added proprioceptive challenge. These sessions give them time to move and work without rider or saddle weight, learn to use their bodies correctly, and build strength and coordination.

Groundwork isn’t “extra.” It’s essential 💪🏼

Gorgeous Paddy enjoyed his treatment this morning ☺️
Hard to believe he’ll be 30 YEARS OLD in May, he is looking fantastic for his age - testament to his owners dedicated care!
A maintenance check for him today following unusual behaviour when having a trim with the farrier and his owner noticing him struggling to weight-bear on a hind leg.

Noticing small behavioural changes can be hugely beneficial in staying ahead of areas of muscle tension or discomfort. When identified early, these areas can be addressed and treated before they develop into larger problems.

With the ground being icy and slippery small muscle strains and tears can happen - treat your horse to a maintenance check up ✨

The boys usual weekly walking poles have been done more than once the last few days with the temperatures being so low resulting in a frozen arena🥶
We have done a variety of set ups to keep them engaged, moving, using their muscles and working on their proprioception 💪🏼

I always recommend walking poles in any variety or variation to my physiotherapy clients especially if it’s too cold and frozen to ride ❄️

As our dogs and horses age, their bodies go through many changes - just like humans.

Stiff joints, reduced mobility, arthritis, muscle loss, or slower recovery after exercise can all become part of their daily lives.
Veterinary physiotherapy can play a vital role in helping senior animals stay comfortable, mobile, and happy for longer!

Physiotherapy focuses on maintaining strength, flexibility, and balance while reducing pain and stiffness.
Through techniques such as electrotherapy’s, gentle exercises, stretching, massage, and tailored rehabilitation plans, older animals can move more freely and with greater confidence.

For many, this means enjoying walks, turnout, hacks, or everyday activities again without discomfort 🙌🏼

For dogs, physiotherapy can help with conditions like arthritis, spinal issues, post-surgical recovery, or general age-related weakness.

For horses, it can support joint health, improve posture and muscle symmetry, and help manage long-term conditions while promoting comfort in work or retirement.

Each animal is assessed as an individual, and treatment plans are adapted to suit their needs, lifestyle, and stage of life.
With the right support, age doesn’t have to mean giving up the things they love, it just means caring for them a little differently.

Treat your animal to regular Veterinary Physiotherapy because growing older should still feel good ✨

Kujo subtly asking for more tummy rubs at the end of his physiotherapy session today ☺️

Kujo has physio every three weeks for maintenance to help maintain his hindlimb muscle mass, keep on top of tension and work on his range of motion.
Maintenance physio is important and very beneficial for older dogs to help with their comfort and mobility 🐾

It was wonderful to see Roy truly enjoying his physiotherapy session yesterday A.M Equestrian🤍
After taking some time to realise I’m not a scary human (the laser is still a bit suspicious 😅), he finally relaxed into the process.
For the first time, he happily accepted the heat pad on his neck and even let me give his poll a proper massage — which he enjoyed more than he’d like to admit!

Building trust with the animals we treat is such a privilege, and watching it grow session by session is why we love what we do ✨
