Aphasia is a difficulty with expression or comprehension. It effects speech, writing, reading and understanding. Often caused by Stroke it can also be due to other sudden and progressive neurological disease. Speech and Language Therapists work with those affected and families to facilitate communication.

Patricia Neal had aphasia. She was Ronald Dahl’s wife and their experiences of trying to communicate inspired his character the Big Friendly Giant. I’m sure you have read it ... but if not it is a very good read! I
