Awareness is important but action is where real change happens. ✔️

More employers than ever are starting conversations about menopause at work. But the next step is ensuring those conversations turn into meaningful, lasting support.

That means:
👉 Training managers to have confident, informed conversations
👉 Introducing clear policies that reflect what colleagues are going through
👉 Creating cultures where menopause is no longer a taboo topic

That’s where we come in.

At Menopause in the Workplace, we work with organisations of all shapes and sizes, from global businesses to local employers, to provide practical, evidence-based training and guidance that makes a real difference.

If you’re ready to move from conversation to action, we’re here to support you.

“When one person speaks up, it makes it easier for others to do the same.”

We know that visible conversations about menopause matter, not just on health pages or panels, but in everyday life and in every workplace.

That’s why we commend public figures like Emma Barnett, who recently shared her experience of perimenopause. It’s a reminder that menopause doesn’t look one way, and that support shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all either.

At Menopause in the Workplace, we help organisations build cultures where these conversations are normal, not taboo; because when employees feel supported, everyone benefits.

World Menopause Month was highlighted in October and World Menopause Day marked on October 18 with an aim to bring menopause strategies in the workplace back to the top of the agenda. HOWEVER, a burst of activity during one month, or often just one day, is little more than a tick-box exercise.

Workplace culture needs to change to be truly menopause friendly, employers recognising that impact, not intent, matters most all year round.

Here are seven menopause strategies for the workplace that truly make a change in the workplace:

World Menopause Month was highlighted in October and World Menopause Day marked on October 18 with an aim to bring menopause strategies in the workplace Menopause Friendly Playbook reflects how hundreds of leaders, champions and colleagues are transforming organisational culture.

Worryingly, only 16% of doctors felt comfortable telling their manager they were experiencing menopause symptoms. (British Medical Association (BMA), 2020)

Even in clinical environments, where knowledge of menopause is higher, stigma can silence people. If healthcare professionals feel they have to hide what they’re going through, what hope is there in less-informed settings?!

This isn’t about confidence, it’s about culture. And it shows just how far we still need to go to make menopause normal to talk about at work. But, we’re changing things and if you’re ready to make the change, please get in touch.

Did you know, for those needing long-term sick leave due to menopause, the average time off during a career is 32 weeks? (CIPD, 2023)

That’s not just a few rough days, it’s over half a year of lost time, potential, and connection. It often happens in quiet isolation, with people unsure of what support exists or too afraid to ask.

But with the right awareness and action, long-term absence doesn't have to be the norm. Early support can prevent later crisis.

Would your team know how to spot the signs and what to do next?

A flippant comment. A raised eyebrow. A “can’t you take a joke?”What might seem harmless banter to one person can land very differently for someone navigating the challenges of menopause, and it chips away at psychological safety.

Building an inclusive culture means more than policies. It means setting the tone from the top and calling out the micro-aggressions that undermine confidence.

If you need some support with this in your organisation, please get in touch as we’re here to help.

Hot flushes, sleep disruption, memory problems and anxiety are among the most common menopause symptoms affecting work, yet a third of women conceal what they’re going through. (Vodafone survey)

That means too many are struggling in silence, worried that being honest will lead to judgement, embarrassment, or even career damage.

The result? Missed opportunities for support, simple adjustments, and better understanding across teams. When you normalise the conversation, you open the door to all of that.

Over half of women (52%) going through menopause feel less inclined to take on additional responsibilities at work. (FSSC, 2021)

This isn’t about a lack of ambition. It’s about capacity, and the invisible weight of symptoms like brain fog, exhaustion, and anxiety, often on top of other caring responsibilities.

For many, stepping back feels like the only option. But the right adjustments, understanding and support can give people the confidence to step forward again.

What changes would help your team feel able, and empowered, to keep saying yes?

From stalled promotions to reduced responsibilities, the career cost of menopause is still widely overlooked. For some, it’s the loss of confidence after a difficult period of symptoms. For others, it’s being passed over because assumptions were made about what they could manage. 😔

But this isn’t inevitable. With a culture of awareness, flexibility and proactive support, we can break the cycle and ensure people aren't held back by health.

Is your workplace making space for every career to grow…at every life stage? 🤔

Sadly, 75% of women who took time off for menopause symptoms didn’t feel able to tell their line manager the real reason. (Vodafone survey (Brown, 2021)) 😔

This statistic speaks volumes. Until people feel safe enough to say, “I’m struggling with menopause,” the stigma continues, and support stays out of reach.

If you want to find out what can you do to help open up the conversation, please get in touch. 🤝

What would it take to help more people experiencing menopause stay, thrive and feel valued in your workplace? 🤔

Retention doesn’t always need radical change, sometimes it starts with listening, learning, and offering the right support at the right time. 🤝

Training, conversation and the right policies, being actioned, make a difference. If you need help with this or guidance, please get in touch. 💻
