Following recent media coverage, we would like to reassure people that fresh flowers without wrappings and floral tributes, such as Christmas wreaths, are welcome on all lawn and traditional graves in our cemeteries as has always been the case.
Fresh flowers will only be sensitively cleared away once they are past their best—or, in the case of Christmas wreaths, in February after the holiday season.
Long standing rules have been in place about certain items not being placed on graves to allow for essential ground maintenance and ensure a respectful and well-maintained space for all visitors. These include shrubs, bulbs or flowers planted in the ground, glass items, artificial grass, DIY grave surrounds, lanterns, personal trinkets, and flags.
We know this is a sensitive situation and that not everyone may have been fully aware of the certain restrictions in place. We will continue to work with families to discuss options with them and would like to thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain these special spaces.
