Are you using PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD?

Progressive overload is a very simple but crucial concept, laying down a foundation upon which successful resistance training is built.

You can include any of the methods Ive listed to your program, but it's best to focus on just one at a time. Adaption will occur and it's good to have the other options there to challenge the body once again.

Even though my post is aimed at weight training it can be applied to your cardio training. Say for example you were looking at your activity level (steps) and you were on average hitting the same targets each week, that when you would need to be increasing your activity, aiming to add 4 or 5000 to your weekly step count.

NSV's are NON SCALE VICTORIES!

Non-scale victories are measurements from improvements that come from small CONSISTENT changes. They go unnoticed if you're only focused on the scale as a measure of your progress. A set of scales only shows a number of a snapshot of your weight at a given moment on a given day.

9 months in, 2 MONTHS OUT! Still can’t believe my baby is two months old and I’m a mom to FOUR KIDS!

Not much progress from month one and still get daily messages on how people are impressed “I show a normal postpartum body.” This used to annoy me that athletes and fitness professionals are held to this unrealistic standard but now I full on embrace it. YA DAMN RIGHT I’m gonna rock my normal mom bod aka a body that just had a baby. Things like what I weigh, saggy skin, veins in my legs, and all the other things I’ve gained in pregnancy don’t bug me. I think this is mostly due to the fact that fitness is my love and outlet not a means to look a certain way. It’s therapeutic. So the fact that the grind to “get back” is long and slow almost makes me happy. I love the challenge. I love the hard work AND YOU SHOULD TOO. I encourage you all to fall in love with the process and enjoy the ride.

JOURNEYS

I've been very quiet on here for the past while with personal set backs!
We are all on different journeys. We all have different obstacles and barriers, but it's our mindset going into these journeys that define us. Positivity and belief go a long way in achieving goals.

To give you a snippet of my current journey. From an emergency csection, a bulging disc in my L4, a long list of daily medication, on top of a pandemic, I had quite a few set backs. But it was my shift of mindset that got me to a little bit of progress. From working really hard with my rehab and my own Pilates training I'm on the way to getting back to lifting weights and back to feel stronger and hopefully pain free on the pitch and most importantly feeling alot like myself and HAPPIER!!

So as you prepare to get back to the GYMS, make sure your going in with a postive attitude and be grateful to be able to be lifting weights. All of last year I was jealous of clients getting to lift weights as I was sidelined feeling sorry for myself. Your mind is a POWERFUL tool. Use it well.
