💫Thank you and Happy New Year ✨

As we step into 2026, we want to say a huge thank you to every member, supporter, practitioner and partner who has taken the time to engage with our polls, share feedback, and support our work over the past year 💜

Your voices truly matter. We’ve been carefully pulling together all of your responses, insights and priorities — and they are directly shaping new offerings, opportunities and developments coming in 2026.

This is about building strong professional standards, meaningful support, and a register that genuinely reflects the needs of our diverse animal, horticultural and equine communities.

We couldn’t do this without you.

Here’s to collaboration, progress and positive change in the year ahead ✨
Thank you for being part of the journey.

The importance of working with horses for humans in support of their personal, and emotional and social development, as well as its therapeutic benefit is being increasingly recognised.

It is wonderful to see this work getting coverage in The Times (The Times and The Sunday Times) this week with a great article written by Lucy Holden.

In our position as an independently accredited register supporting this work, it is good to see the discussion reaching a wider audience.

This widening of the narrative helps us to ensure that professional and ethical standards are maintained across the practice.

As the year comes to a close, AAHEP would like to thank all members, practitioners, partners and stakeholders who contribute to maintaining high standards across animal, horticultural and nature-based practice.

The role of a professional register is not simply to recognise practice, but to safeguard the public, support practitioners, and promote accountability, ethical decision-making and continual professional development. This responsibility is shared — and we are grateful to those who carry it with integrity.

This season offers a moment to pause and reflect on the importance of steady, principled work — particularly in fields where trust, welfare and professionalism matter deeply.

We wish you a peaceful Christmas period and a positive, purposeful start to the New Year.

With best wishes,
AAHEP - AAHEP.uk

Following work undertaken by an international taskforce and consultation with those working in research and practice, IAHAIO is proud to announce the publication of its NEW minimum standards for research in Animal-Assisted Services (AAS), Human-Animal Interaction (HAI) and Human-Animal Bond (HAB).👏

These standards provide a baseline for ethical and methodological rigor while safeguarding the well-being of both humans and animals. They are designed to be internationally relevant, flexible, and evolving, reflecting ongoing advances in research, education, practice and policy.

They place human and animal well-being at the forefront and were co-created with the active cooperation of global international partners. They consider academia, practice and education as equivalents and are targeted across domains.

We are proud to announce these standards are now live on the IAHAIO website and available for download. Visit the link in our stories or the link below for full access.💻
