Another lovely Carers & Carer For peer support group yesterday at Harbour Rise 💙

These sessions, hosted in partnership with Torbay Communities, are a chance for local carers to come together, share experiences, and support one another in a relaxed and welcoming space. Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also feel overwhelming at times, and having people who truly understand can make a big difference.

It was wonderful to see such open conversation, encouragement, and connection around the table.

If you’re caring for a loved one and would value a friendly, supportive group to talk with, you’re always very welcome to join us.

Sessions are held on the second Tuesday of every month.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating all the women who help make Harbour Rise such a special place.

So many of the people who make life at Harbour Rise warm, welcoming and meaningful are incredible women who bring kindness, dedication and professionalism to their work every single day.

Their compassion, patience and commitment make a real difference to the lives of our residents and their families. We’re so proud of the supportive team and community we’ve built together.

💙✨ Meet Our Head of Care - Tasha ✨💙

At Harbour Rise, experience, dedication and heart make all the difference - and no one embodies that more than our Head of Care, Tasha.

In May 2026, Tasha will have worked at Harbour Rise for an incredible 28 years. She began her journey in the laundry department and, over the years, has worked in almost every role in the home - apart from driving the day care minibus, which she’ll happily tell you is not her favourite pastime!

When Mark and Cecile bought Harbour Rise, Tasha was already a senior carer, full of enthusiasm and commitment. It wasn’t long before she became our Head of Care, a role she has proudly held ever since. A true Paignton girl, Tasha has shared much of her Harbour Rise journey with her niece Zoe, who also works here. Together, they’re a formidable team and a wonderful example of family dedication.

Tasha started at the home as a young, free and single woman, later meeting her husband Ken. Together they have a son, Kyan, now in his early 20s. Outside of work, Tasha loves spending time with family and friends, dining out, enjoying live music - from local bands to big names like Take That, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay - and heading off on a city break when she can.

Over the years, Tasha has seen Harbour Rise grow and evolve, and she’s incredibly proud to have helped shape it into the home it is today. She loves the unique family atmosphere, where staff genuinely support and look out for one another. From charity events and garden parties to the Christmas market, Tasha is always there – celebrating, supporting and bringing people together.

Most of all, Tasha loves getting to know our residents as individuals and supporting them to live their best lives, making a real difference every single day. A lovely family link too - Tasha’s dad once drove our day care minibus and was fondly remembered for his colourful shirts and infectious personality.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Tasha as part of the heart of Harbour Rise. 💙

💛 Carer & Cared For Peer Support Group - March Session 💛

Our next Carer and Cared For session, in partnership with Torbay Communities, takes place on the second Tuesday of March, and we’d love to welcome you.

These relaxed, friendly sessions are designed for those caring for a loved one at home. While carers enjoy a cup of tea, conversation and mutual support, their loved ones take part in gentle activities in a safe, warm environment with our team.

It’s a chance to connect, share experiences and enjoy a little breathing space together. You’ll be warmly welcomed - whether it’s your first time or you’ve joined us before. 💙

✨ A 'Magic' Moment at Harbour Rise ✨

After many months of fundraising, we’re delighted to share that our new OM Interactive sensory Magic Table system is now part of daily life here at Harbour Rise.

When we began exploring dementia-friendly technology, it was important that anything we chose could be used flexibly - not just in shared spaces, but also in residents’ own rooms, including for those who are cared for in bed. After several demonstrations, we selected a calm, inclusive and truly person-centred system that felt right for our home.

Thanks to the incredible support of our summer garden party, Christmas fayre and quiz night - alongside generous donations from Paignton Lions Club, Little Ant Insurance, Roundham Garage and our wonderful families - this special piece of equipment is now here.

And already, as you can see, it’s creating beautiful moments.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome visitors from Paignton Lions Club in Preston to try it for themselves - a lovely full-circle moment after their support.

💐✨ Meet Our Housekeeper - Annya ✨💐

At Harbour Rise, creating a space that truly feels like home is so important, and that care and attention is demonstrated everyday by our wonderful Housekeeper, Annya.

Annya’s role is varied and deeply personal. From helping residents settle in on their very first day with us, to placing fresh flowers and a welcome card in their room, she takes great care in making sure every new beginning at Harbour Rise feels relaxing, comfortable and reassuring.

She carefully helps set up rooms to reflect each resident’s individual needs and routines – from positioning beds the way they would be at home, to organising care equipment to support dignity and independence. Annya also helps unpack belongings and label clothes, taking the pressure off families and allowing residents to feel settled more quickly.

As residents’ needs change over time, Annya is often involved in adjusting rooms to ensure transitions are smooth and supportive. Seeing the positive impact this has on both residents and their families is something she finds especially heart-warming.
Alongside her day-to-day role, Annya enjoys being involved in Harbour Rise’s annual events such as the Garden Party and Christmas Fayre. She loves working alongside colleagues, mixing with residents and families, and being part of the wider Harbour Rise community.

We’re incredibly grateful for the care, thoughtfulness and pride Annya brings to her role, helping make Harbour Rise feel like home from day one. 💙

🥞 Pancake Day at Harbour Rise 🥞

There is a wonderful smell drifting through Harbour Rise today as we celebrate Shrove Tuesday in the most delicious way!

Our kitchen team prepared fresh pancakes, ready to be topped just the way everyone likes them, from classic lemon and sugar to jam and syrup.

More than anything, it was the conversations that made the morning special. Memories of childhood Pancake Days. Stories of flipping disasters at home. Debates over the “right” toppings!

Simple traditions like these bring warmth, familiarity and connection - and it’s often those small moments that mean the most.

At Harbour Rise, we believe every day should be meaningful, whether that’s through a big event or a freshly made pancake shared with friends.
