🩷 Romy 🩷

On Monday 23rd March NICU superstar Romy finally made it home with her parents, big brother and big sister after 143 days between RHC and RAH NICU 🥳

Mum Sally was happy to share Romy’s amazing journey in NICU -
“Our little warrior, born at just 23 weeks and 6 days. From 1lb to 9lb by 44 weeks, Romy has shown incredible strength every single day.

She has faced jaundice, blood transfusions, ROP, lung disease, and multiple infections. After 143 days between QEUH and RAH, and thanks to their incredible care, she is finally home on oxygen and reunited with her family (it sometimes felt like Romy was in no rush to leave, with a few delayed discharge dates along the way!).

We will never be able to thank the Neonatal team enough for everything they have done for Romy. They treated her like one of their own, showing so much love, care, and dedication throughout her journey. We are forever grateful and will truly miss all of the staff ❤️”

Our entire team at RAH Neonatal unit are overjoyed for Romy and her family, and wish them all the best starting their life as a family of 5 at home! We will miss Romy’s gorgeous little face on the unit as she’s become part of the NICU family 🥰 🫶🏼🤍

To every mum, in every kind of beginning—

And especially to those who met us through wires and whispers,
who learned our tiny rhythms through beeps and blinking lights…

We may have arrived early,
but so did your strength.

You held us with hope when your arms had to wait,
loved us through incubators,
and spoke our names before we could hear them.

And to the mums whose journeys looked different—
who held us close from the very first breath,
who carried us, calmed us, and watched us grow—
your love is just as fierce, just as endless.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate all of you—
every story, every path, every kind of mum.
Our first home,
our fiercest protectors,
our forever safe place.

Love,
❤️your little ones❤️

📚 World Book Day 2026 📚

Yesterday volunteers from the Renfrewshire book bug team came into the RAH Neonatal Unit to read to the babies and parents to celebrate world book day! Thank you to the volunteers who generously gave up their time, it is greatly appreciated! 😊

From around 22 weeks in pregnancy your baby can hear in the womb and can recognise/respond to your voice. Hearing a parents voice can calm and reassure your baby, making them feel secure 🥰

Your voice lets your baby know that you are there, and the words they hear will help your baby’s brain and language develop in the future 👶🏼

Benefits for parents also include distraction, feeling calmer, bonding and attachment ❤️

🥳 Happy belated 1st birthday Cormoran! 🥳

On the 14th December Cormoran celebrated his big first birthday! 💙

Mum Jennifer sent in this lovely update to share -
“Hi there, we wanted to share that our little guy Cormoran has just celebrated his first birthday with his family and especially his doting sister Cora.

Cormoran was born at 35 weeks which came as a bit of a surprise to us and meant that we had to attend Cora's nativity via WhatsApp video whilst Cormy was growing a bit stronger.

We are so grateful to the nicu staff and wider maternity team not only for the care they provided our little guy but also that which they showed to our family. We have had a year full of adventures, travelling to the lake district and as far as Australia. We will always be grateful for your support and merry Christmas when it comes”

Happy belated birthday from everyone at RAH NICU, we are glad to hear that you have had a great time celebrating! 🥰
