Your body will always find a way to keep you moving…
Even if it means working around a problem instead of fixing it.
That’s where compensation comes in.
Here are 3 signs your body might be doing it:
1️⃣ You feel everything in one area
(Your lower back, neck, hips—it’s always the same spot)
2️⃣ You hold your breath when you move
(Big sign your body doesn’t feel stable)
3️⃣ One side feels tighter or weaker
(Your body is shifting load to cope)
This isn’t you doing it wrong.
It’s your body trying to protect you.
But if you don’t address it…
that pattern becomes your normal.
And that’s when progress stalls—or pain sticks around.

Have you noticed any of these? Comment YES if you have 👇

If exercise has ever made you feel worse, not better—this is why.
Most programmes aren’t built for bodies that need support first.
You don’t need more effort. You need a different starting point.

The honest truth about stretching…
If your body feels tight, the instinct is always the same:
👉 “I need to stretch more.”
But what if that tightness isn’t the problem?
What if it’s your body trying to protect you?
After years working in Pilates and exercise therapy, this is something I see all the time:
Muscles often tighten because something underneath doesn’t feel stable or supported.
So you stretch…
It feels better for a moment…
But the tightness comes back.
Not because you didn’t stretch enough —
but because your body still doesn’t feel safe.
✨ Real change happens when you understand why your body is holding tension — and support it properly through movement.

If this sounds like you, save this post — it might change how you approach your body.
And tell me… do you feel like you’re always stretching the same areas?

f exercise makes your pain worse… it’s not you — it’s the programme.
This is something I hear all the time.
Women who have tried:
• online workouts
• gym programmes
• Pilates classes
…and instead of feeling better, they feel more sore, more frustrated, and more unsure of what to do next.
The problem isn’t exercise.
The problem is that most programmes don’t take into account:
• how your body is currently moving
• whether you’re compensating for pain
• if certain muscles have switched off
• how your joints are being supported
After 25+ years working in exercise therapy, cardiac rehab, and Pilates, one thing is clear:
When the body is in pain, it adapts.
And if you don’t work with those changes, you end up reinforcing them.
That’s why informed, appropriate movement matters so much — especially in midlife and with long-term health conditions.
✨ Your body doesn’t need more pressure. It needs the right support.

If this resonates with you, save this post so you can come back to it.
And tell me — have you ever stopped exercising because it made things worse?

Something the fitness industry doesn’t talk about enough…

Pain changes how your body moves.
You don’t just feel pain —you move differently, you stand differently, you compensate without even realising.

And if exercise doesn’t take that into account, it can actually reinforce the problem.

That’s why informed movement matters so much.

Most exercise advice online isn’t written for bodies that are dealing with pain, fatigue, medication or long-term health conditions.
But that’s exactly who I work with every day.
After 25+ years in exercise therapy, Pilates and clinical exercise referral, one thing is clear:
Generic exercise advice often misses what real bodies actually need.
Movement should help your body feel stronger and more confident — not more sore and confused.
If this resonates with you, save this post so you can come back to it later.

Many people try to fix aches, weakness or pelvic health issues by guessing what exercises they should do.

But without understanding how your body is aligned and moving, it’s easy to keep repeating the same patterns.

This is why I offer an Honest Body Assessment.

In this in-depth session we look at:
• your alignment and posture
• how your body moves and compensates
• strength and pelvic floor support
• daily habits and lifestyle factors

From there we create a clear, practical plan designed for your body — not a generic programme.

The session lasts up to two hours, giving us the time to properly understand what’s going on and identify the changes that will make the biggest difference.

Available in person or via Zoom.

No quick fixes.
No guesswork.
Just thoughtful, evidence-informed guidance.

If you’d like to understand your body more deeply, you can book your Honest Body Assessment via the green button on my website.

Strength is often the missing piece for many women in midlife.
One of the most effective ways to support blood sugar stability, hormone balance and steady energy is through progressive strength training.
Muscle works like a glucose sponge — the more muscle you use, the better your body manages blood sugar.
When women begin structured strength work, I often see:
• more stable energy
• fewer cravings
• better blood sugar balance
• cycles that become easier to manage
A simple but powerful place to start is the Sit-to-Stand Squat.
It might look basic, but it’s incredibly effective because it:
• activates the largest muscles in the body (glutes and thighs)
• improves insulin sensitivity
• strengthens hips and pelvic stability
• builds functional strength for everyday life
Try it:
Sit on a chair → stand up slowly without using your hands → sit back down with control.
Start with 8–10 repetitions, 2–3 rounds.
Done consistently, this small movement can begin to support metabolic stability and strength in midlife.

One exercise. Several powerful benefits.

The One-Leg Circle with a resistance band is a brilliant way to build strength and control through the hips while supporting pelvic floor function.

At first glance it looks simple. But when you add a resistance band, the body has to work much harder to stabilise and control the movement.

Here’s what that gives you:
• Stronger legs – the band adds load through the hip and thigh muscles as you control the circle.
• Greater range of movement – the controlled circles gently open the hip joint and improve mobility.
• Better bone stimulus – resistance encourages bone to adapt and stay stronger over time.
• Faster pelvic floor engagement – because the deep core and pelvic floor automatically switch on to stabilise the pelvis against the band.

This is why functional exercises can be so powerful.
Rather than isolating the pelvic floor alone with Kegels, movements like this encourage the pelvic floor to work with the core, hips and breathing — the way it’s designed to in real life.

Stronger hips.
Better control.

A pelvic floor that responds when you need it.
Small exercises. Big impact.

If you’d like to learn how to use exercises like this safely and effectively, come along to class or drop me a message.

I got to use my new portable yesterday, for the first time, creating a fresh nutritious lunchtime smoothie using my protein powder, whilst in a car park. It went down too quickly, in between all my sessions yesterday, for me to film it. But it was great to be completely nourished and full of fuel for concentration during my afternoon sessions.

What a day ahead… and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 😃❤️

7am start with my online Gym Subclass crew – screens on, bodies moving, minds waking up.

Then straight off to Cameron House for a beautiful Pilates session with members who show up, put the work in, and remind me why consistency matters.

Next stop: Ralston community class – real people, real effort, real progress.

And today I’ve the privilege of visiting St Vincent’s Hospice to deliver a seated yoga session.

Movement looks different in every space, but the power of it? Always the same.

Rounding it all off in Kilbarchan with my community Pilates class… 12 hours after I began.

Long day? Yes.

Worth it? Every single minute.

Grateful for the ability to move.
Grateful for the trust people place in me.
Grateful to share yoga and Pilates with such incredible humans.

Wherever your day takes you – show up fully. It all counts.
