‘Take Responsibility for your Empowerment'...What does that mean? And why might it be important?
Responsibility is often something we want to avoid. It is a noun that is often grossly misunderstood.
The opposite to responsibility is blame, and this is a double-edged sword. Blaming someone or something else may bring short term relief, but in the long run it has a huge cost. When we blame, we automatically give our power away. It becomes someone else's fault and someone else's responsibility and, as such, we relinquish our power to change it. We become the victim.
I hear you say BUT they’ve………..
I hear you and I understand you because I have been there too.
However, when we take responsibility...even if that is only for our reaction, our emotions and feelings ...we start bringing the power back into our control. We are re-empowering ourselves and accepting that we have the power to choose differently. We have the power to transform our inner world and therefore greatly influence our outer world.
The spiritual path is one where we take more and more responsibility for ourselves and, I would add, the healing path is one and the same.
This journey to reclaiming our power takes time, courage and self-compassion. It also needs the help and support from someone that you can trust. But it is so worth it and it is an essential part of the healing process, restoring Ease to an often, over-traumatised nervous system. In my experience there are key steps to enabling this. This is not just a conscious decision. The nervous system that is designed to protect us doesn't just switch off because we've taken this first step. There needs to be 'dialogue' a ‘process’ that restores trust and safety to the deeply wounded aspects within.
