🌍 World AMR Awareness Week | 18–24 November
Theme: Act Now – Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest threats to global health today. When bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites become resistant to medicines, infections become harder to treat - putting lives, food security, and the environment at risk.

This week, we’re joining the global call to action. Everyone has a role to play - from healthcare professionals to farmers, veterinarians, and local communities. Together, we can protect the medicines that protect us all.

Do:

✅Only take antibiotics prescribed for you

✅Ask if your prescribed antibiotics are the preferred first-line treatment

✅Prevent infections by washing your hands and keeping up to date with vaccinations

✅Complete the full course if prescribed

Don’t:

❌ Use antibiotics for colds or flu - they don’t treat viruses

❌ Share your antibiotics with others

❌ Save leftover antibiotics for later

aged 2 or 3 on 31st August 2025

The nasal flu vaccine is quick, painless, and helps protect your child throughout the winter season.

If your child missed their previous appointment, this is a perfect opportunity to get them protected.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest global health challenges of our time. When bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites become resistant to the medicines designed to treat them, infections become harder - and sometimes impossible - to cure.

Misuse and overuse of antibiotics and other antimicrobials -whether in humans, animals, or agriculture - accelerate this resistance. This not only affects individual health, but also threatens our food systems, environment, and economies.

🩺 What can you do?

Only use antibiotics when prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional.

Always complete the full course of treatment - even if you feel better.

Never share or use leftover antibiotics.

Prevent infections by practising good hygiene and keeping vaccinations up to date.

🌱 A One Health approach

AMR affects us all - humans, animals, plants, and the environment. Tackling it requires everyone to work together: healthcare professionals, farmers, veterinarians, policymakers, and communities.

Let’s act now to protect the medicines that save lives - today and for future generations.

🧪 Have Your Say on Point of Care Testing 🧪

👉 Point of care testing means medical tests carried out close to where you need them - in a GP surgery, pharmacy, community setting or even at home. These tests (such as pregnancy, Covid, blood or urine tests) don’t need to go to a laboratory, so results are much quicker - sometimes within minutes.

📋 The survey asks for your views on 10 short statements about point of care tests. All responses are anonymous and will only be used for this project by the North West Point of Care Testing Group, which includes Health Innovation North West Coast, the University of Central Lancashire and Westlakes Research Ltd.
