I spent decades thinking these were just my quirks, but they were actually my brain's frantic way of hiding my Autistic/ADHD traits to blend in. Late diagnosis is the process of realizing all those little "coping mechanisms" were actually masking.
It’s exhausting to:
Make scripts in your head
Consciously manage your voice tone
Study yourself closely in conversations
Use alcohol to feel 'less awkward' (A very real and common issue!)
Which one of these resonates with you the most? Let me know the trait you didn't realize was masking! ADHD masking symptoms. Autism in women. Late diagnosed Autism traits. Social scripting. Using alcohol to cope with social anxiety. Neurodivergent relatability.

Autistic traits I assumed I didn't experience due to loteral thinking. As a late-diagnosed Autistic and ADHD person, my biggest barrier was literal thinking. I spent years dismissing my traits because I thought they only applied to physical things (like lining up objects) or meant I had no emotions at all. It turns out, that intense pattern recognition is a huge clue, and difficulty identifying emotions is called Alexithymia. If you are struggling with a late diagnosis, you are not alone! What traits did you overlook? Let me know in the comments

As an autistic and ADHD female I adore christmas but it is a struggle. I am still learning how to cope now I have a better understanding of myself but also it only comes once a year so it's difficult. What do you struggle with when it comes to christmas and do you have any tip or hacks that help get you through?

Anyone else who is Autistic or ADHD just hate speaking to people on the phone? I can use video calling absolutely fine but when it comes to speaking on the phone I just go into shutdown 🤦‍♀️ I had emailed this place but they never got back to me. But yey! A big win for me today. Hopefully doesn't cost too much to fix tomorrow 🤞

Friendship Trauma is real, especially for Autistic or ADHD women. Years of social misunderstanding led to rejection, and now the fear of opening up activates intense RSD. (Rejection sensitive dysphoria)
That brain calculates whether the risk of pain is worth the connection, it is a self-protective trauma response. Be gentle with your neurodivergent heart today.
Share a ❤️ if you understand the trauma response behind your isolation or loneliness

Trying to put away one item at a time triggers massive executive dysfunction and decision fatigue. This ADHD hack breaks the paralysis by creating satisfying, focused steps!
Hack Steps:
Gather: Put everything into one big pile (Embrace the chaos!).
Categorize: Sort the big pile into small piles by category (Laundry, Books, Kitchen items).
Put Away: Now you only have three fast, single-focus tasks to complete.
The visual dopamine hit from sorting the chaos is everything. Try this low-demand method!
What category pile is the biggest in your house?

The paradox of loneliness for the Autistic and ADHD Woman and man. The harder you mask to fit in, the deeper the loneliness becomes. You are exhausting yourself connecting your performance, not your authentic self.
If you struggle with high masking, know that the mask is the barrier of connection.

Just a little reminder that although Autism and ADHD is a part of who you are it does not define what you can achieve.
Sending love to all my Autistic and ADHD friends in this festive period

Loneliness and isolation is so difficult anyway as Autistic and ADHD adults, let alone in the festive period. I have been feeling it so much lately but particularly the last couple of weeks. It would be so lovely to have that connection with people. Making friends is alright, its maintaining that friendship that is something I personally struggle with. I would love if someone said "Hey, shall we go to this event on this day". Instead I always feel like an after thought and it hurts. Even when I try and arrange something, I am mostly met with "sorry I am doing this with someone else that day". I know people are busy but it makes me question myself and my worth. I end up just not bothering, isolating and asking Why am I never chosen, what can I do better, am I really that bad, why does no one check in?
I can't imagine that I am the only one in this situation, so if you feel it like me, you are not alone 🫶❤️

Autism and ADHD advent, day 2.
Tidying can be incredibly difficult for the AuDHD brain because we try to decide, transport, and put away all at once. When you are Autistic and ADHD little changes can be so helpful to challenge executive dysfunction. This hack breaks it down into simple, low-demand steps!
Hack: Use bags for each room to separate the clutter. Clear the clutter first. Sort later!
The immediate dopamine hit from a clear room is everything. Try it and let me know if it helps

Christmas can be a very overwhelming time of year especially if you are Autistic or ADHD. So I wanted to do something each day in the lead up from a late diagnosed, highmasking AuDHD females point of view
