Sign Language is very important please ensure all parents and carers of a DEAF CHILD get free BSL training it's a fundamental rite to communicate.

Please sign this it's a basic fundamental human rite to communicate!

90% of Deaf children are born to hearing families, most of which will have no experience of what they need to do to support that child. As a Teacher of the Deaf I repeatedly meet families that cannot afford BSL, which can leave the child isolated & frustrated. It costs £3000/person to gain level 3

Positive plans and good afermations are helpful even if they are practical. Learn them and use them often.

With hopefully some warmer weather coming and April often associated with April showers it maybe time to dig out the wellie boots. plan if you know of any local roads that flood, and have an alternative route planned out

With the snow melting plan Journeys just in case of flooring especially on rural roads know your route and try and be aware of diversions. Being relaxed if you have to travel is key.

Several weather means donot travel if at all avoidable. Get midwifes to come to you or Phone for advice to your nearest large hospital. The emergency services are equipped to get to you. If needed stay warm and Cosey

Given the current Aberdeenshire weather please plan all travel. Only travel if nessecary! Remember a midwife or paramedic can come to you in your warm home to help you. They have a duty of care wouldn’t be the first time a police 4x4 has brought a midwife to a birth as safer to stay home than travel. Plan everything and have plenty towels an hot water bottles on hand if you do travel.

Well I’ve dug out thermal tights and warmer jumpers this week to layer up. Now is the time to think about winter! Cars ideally should have a bag of sand, shovel, blankets and a flask of hot water in them. Also a couple if cans of deicer and a couple of scrapers and warm gloves. This is great for when your out in ice and snow or if you breakdown. Maybe think about photocopies of your notes in the car and your car seat as well as cost clothing for baby should they decide now is the time to come. Get winter ready and stay safe on the roads.

When looking at feeding options ensure you have a support network. Ask lots of questions and follow your instincts. Look for feeding cues and aim to feed within a few minutes of these being displayed. A baby doesn't time 3-4 hours in between a feed what ever method follow their lead with feeding. Remember few adults can go 3-4 hours without a drink of some sort so although milk is a babies food it may just be a little thirsty so some milk maybe a welcome drink not just a meal.

When looking for maternity pads consider incontinence pads for night time or incontinence underwear. Strange ? NO the padding is comfortable for sitting on if your tender. Also it prevents / limits leaks and if you sneeze and leak its absorbed easily. Comfort is your friend in those first few days and weeks post birth

Keep a camera to hand for those first moments with baby. Don't worry about how you look capture that first cuddle with Mum, Dad, Grannie,Auntie who ever comes to see you in weeks and years to come those memories will be the most precious.
