🌿✨ Throwback Thursday ✨🌿

Looking back at this West Sussex country farmhouse, where Location Landscapes has proudly carried out regular maintenance for over ten years. This project is a true example of how consistent care and attention shape a garden into something timeless.

These photos were captured as we prepared the garden for a family wedding — a celebration framed by carefully pruned cloud-form Buxus, a striking feature at the front of the house. Alongside this, our team ensured every element, from structural topiary to soft perennial planting, was in its best condition.

Crafting and maintaining gardens like this requires technical precision, seasonal awareness, and an eye for form — qualities that ensure these spaces remain beautiful all year round. 🌳💚

This week, our very own Hannah has chosen three of her favourite shots from gardens we’ve worked in – each one capturing something special about the craft and character of gardening. 🌿

✨ Chelsea, May 2022 – Hannah’s first time at Chelsea, where the work feels more like scene dressing for a film than everyday gardening. Every gap filled, every leaf tidied – an immersive, detailed experience that shows the intensity behind the beauty.

✨ The striped lawn – A moment taken from the top of a ladder (safely, of course!) showcasing herbaceous borders, distinctive shrubs, specimen trees, and the pièce de résistance: those crisp stripes that bring formality and structure to the garden.

✨ Autumn grasses – Although we no longer maintain this garden, this photo stood out for Hannah as it perfectly captures the garden in motion. By leaving the grasses in their prime, the golden tones of autumn leaves and the movement of wind bring the whole scene alive.

Summer so far ☀️🌿
It’s been a season of colour, texture, and structure across our projects. From precise topiary domes and clipped evergreens, to abundant herbaceous borders and refreshed water features, we’ve been keeping gardens looking their best through the peak growing months.

Regular pruning, feeding, and care ensure strong displays now while setting the framework for the months ahead. It’s always rewarding to see planting schemes maturing into their design, and to keep every space balanced between form and flourish

🌿 Topiary domes – These are yew (Taxus baccata), clipped into bold domed forms with pointed tops. Yew is a classic for formal topiary because it’s dense, slow-growing, and responds really well to shaping.

🌸 Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’ – The big white pom-pom flowers behind the yew domes. These hydrangeas flower in midsummer and give that soft, frothy contrast against the clipped evergreens.

🌱 Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) – Running along the front edge of the bed. Lavender gives fragrance, attracts pollinators, and its spiky flowers break up all the rounder shapes in the design.

🌿 Climbers – Wisteria is trained against the stone wall, climbing around the windows. Adds that romantic, old-English feel and really suits the architecture.

🌳 Mixed evergreens – There are also other rounded evergreens in the mix (likely box, holly, or laurel), helping layer different shades and textures of green.

Together, this combo creates a very formal English garden look: architectural structure from the yew, softness from the hydrangeas, scent and movement from lavender, and romance from the wisteria

Meet the newest (and fluffiest) members of the Location Landscapes team 🐾
They take their supervisory roles very seriously — ensuring regular tea breaks, grass-comfort testing, and plenty of morale boosting cuddles.
Productivity levels? Through the roof. Efficiency? Questionable. Cuteness? Off the charts.

🌿 Border refresh at its summer peak 🌿

These beds have come into their own this month, with Sedum, Persicaria and Nepeta providing the backbone of the display. We’ve recently edged, weeded, and mulched the borders to help retain moisture and give each plant the best conditions to thrive through the hotter weeks.

The structure’s there, the colour’s coming, and the textures are playing off each other just right. Always a joy to see borders evolve like this.

From cloud to cone… or maybe a bit of both? ✨✂️

This yew topiary is one of those shapes you can stare at for ages — layers of green sculpted into something playful yet precise. We love projects that keep us on our toes (and on our ladders!) like this.

What do you see? 🌿👀”

Shaping giants 🌿✂️
A yew this size takes patience, rhythm — and a very steady ladder.

There’s something deeply satisfying about refining bold forms and letting the sunlight catch every crisp edge.
