Join us at our Women's Centre on Friday 13 March, from 10am to 12pm, for a session with West Devon and East Cornwall Breast Screening.

They will be talking about the importance of being breast aware, including monthly breast checks, the GP referral route, and family history. There will also be a torso model to help women understand the changes to look out for, as well as small gift bags with useful resources to take away.

March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. Do you knows the signs to look out for?

Know ‘your normal’ - if it’s not normal for you and been that way for 2-3 weeks you need to see your GP. For most people it won’t be cancer but if it is an early diagnosis will make a big difference.

March is Prostate Cancer Awareness month. 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime - for black men the figure is 1 in 4. That means double the risk. Knowing what to look out for and accessing help early is so important.

Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer in the UK.

Our analysis shows the number of men being diagnosed with the disease is at an all-time high.

Yet there are huge inequities in how the disease is diagnosed across the UK, with too many men finding out too late - when their cancer is harder to treat.

And it’s still the only common cancer without a mass screening programme, despite often showing no early symptoms.

That’s why it's essential for every man to understand his risk and what he can choose to do about it.

⭐⭐Introducing new headwear sessions with our wonderful volunteer Kath.⭐⭐

Kath spent many years as a hairdresser, and as well as being one of our longest serving and most loveliest volunteers here at The Mustard Tree, she also uses her knowledge and expertise to support women who are facing hair loss due to their cancer treatment.
Scarfs and other items of headwear can be worn in addition to, or as an alternative to a wig, and offer lots of variety and styles to help with confidence and self esteem.
Sessions will run on a Thursday in the Mustard Tree between 10-12. They are private 1-2-1 sessions, but you very welcome to bring someone for support. If you are interested please give us a call and book your space.

Thanks for signing up as a Cancer Champion today Nicky Nurrish.

Many many people know Nicky and she’s often the person people turn to. The face behind the amazing community organisation Marbleslostandfound and someone who pops up all over advocating around mental health and the value of lived experience.

Nicky initially said no to being a Cancer Champion just because she’s so busy already. She has conversations all day every day, has people asking her for help and support and signposting. She’s that ‘trusted person’ for so many people and has supported people around cancer too. So we talked about what a Cancer Champion does - raising awareness, encouraging people to access help and support…and she said ‘that’s what I do already’

Ok - I’ll sign up 😁😁😁😁😁

Being a Cancer Champion doesn’t mean doing big things…it’s about being that ‘trusted person’ and doing small things in your everyday life 😁😁

If you’re living with cancer or have been affected by cancer pop in and have a chat. They will be there from 10am-12 noon - no appointment necessary. There’s not much Jo and Penny can’t help with 😁
