Think your shoulders are tight because you “just need a stretch”? Not always.

If your shoulders always feel tight, here’s the thing - it’s not always because they need stretching.

Sometimes it’s weakness, not tightness.
Sometimes it’s stress.

Sometimes it’s how you sit all day without realising.

Your upper traps and rhomboids might be crying out for help because your pecs are pulling everything forward.

That rounded posture we all fall into - it adds up over time.

So before you book another “neck and shoulder rub,” think about:
1️⃣ How long you’re sat each day
2️⃣ If you actually strengthen the opposite muscles
3️⃣ Whether you’re clenching your jaw (yep, that’s connected too)
4️⃣ How you carry your bag or lift things
5️⃣ When you last gave those muscles proper rest

Tight doesn’t always mean strong. And pain doesn’t always mean “just massage it.”

A good treatment starts before you even get on the table

I always take a bit of time to chat before we start.
What’s been going on.
What’s sore.
What you want out of the session.

It means the treatment is actually tailored to you - not a one-size-fits-all massage.

And afterwards, I’ll always talk through what we did, why it helped, and what you can do between sessions to keep things improving.

“I’ve been to physios and nothing’s worked”

You’ve done the exercises.
You’ve tried the stretches.
You’ve been handed the sheet and told to “just keep doing it.”

And yet… you’re still in pain.

It’s frustrating.
You start to wonder - is this just how your body is now?

But here’s what most people don’t get:
If no one’s actually looked at your tissues,
worked through them hands-on,
understood how you move, live, and train…

Of course it’s not working.

Pain needs context.
And sometimes, it needs someone to just listen.
Not just hand you a PDF and send you on your way.

This is why I do soft tissue therapy.
Because it’s not just about “rehab.”
It’s about treating the person, not just the symptom.

Don’t do this if you want your injury to settle quicker

Don’t wait for it to get “bad enough.”

Everyone does it.
You feel something ni**le and think…
“I’ll give it a week.”
Then another.
Then suddenly you’re limping, avoiding certain movements, or not training at all.

Here’s the truth:
Early tweaks respond fastest.
They settle quicker.
You need less treatment.
You get back to normal sooner.

The longer you leave it, the more your body compensates and the harder it becomes to work out the original cause.

A week of dog walks around the clinic - sunshine, puddles, muddy paws, and a nice excuse to get outside between appointments.

It’s a good reminder that recovery isn’t just what happens on the massage table.

Getting outside. Moving. Doing the things you actually enjoy…

It all helps your body settle, loosen up, and recover quicker.

A lot of clients tell me the same thing - they just want to feel relaxed, listened to, and not overwhelmed with complicated advice.

That’s always my approach.
Clear explanations.
No jargon.
And a space where you actually feel comfortable asking questions.

I get it.
You’ve Googled it.
You’ve watched the videos.
You’ve tried the stretches and rolled it out on a ball or foam roller.

And sometimes that helps - for a bit.
But if the same pain keeps coming back, that’s your sign it needs more than a quick fix.

DIY recovery only works when you actually know what you’re fixing.
That’s where I come in - to figure out the root cause, not just the bit that hurts.

You don’t need to do it all yourself.
You just need the right plan for you.

If you sit all day, this will help your back more than stretching ever will

A lot of people think they’re “tight” because they sit too much.

But tightness isn’t the whole story.

What actually helps?

Movement. Little and often.
Standing up every hour.
A quick walk.
A couple of gentle activation exercises to wake things up again.

Because when a muscle has been switched off all day, stretching it isn’t fixing the problem.
It’s just pulling on something that’s half asleep.

This client came in with tension through their back, neck and calves - the usual areas that take the hit when things start building up.

We worked through the tight spots, talked about what had been causing them, and looked at how to stop those issues becoming bigger problems later on.

That’s the goal with every session: feel better now, but also understand how to keep things moving well afterwards.

Don’t skip recovery just because you’re not in pain

Here’s the truth - pain is a late sign that something’s wrong.
Your body usually gives you plenty of clues before that.

The stiffness in the morning.
That dull ache after work.
Feeling “off” in training, but pushing through anyway.

Soft tissue therapy isn’t just about fixing pain - it’s about preventing it.
It’s the difference between managing your body and chasing problems once they’ve set in.

If you only look after your body when it hurts, you’re always one step behind.
