Veneers vs composite bonding, your FAQs answered 🤎

1️⃣ What’s the difference?
Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic coverings placed over the front surface of the tooth to improve shape and colour. This usually involves some enamel preparation
Composite bonding uses a tooth coloured resin added to the edges or front of the teeth and typically requires no preparation or drilling

2️⃣ How long does treatment take?
Porcelain veneers usually need multiple visits, planning, preparing the teeth, and fitting the veneers
Composite bonding can often be completed in one or two visits, with no lab work or temporary veneers needed

3️⃣ Does it hurt?
Porcelain veneers involve some tooth reduction, so local anaesthetic is normally used
Composite bonding is non-invasive, meaning no injections are usually needed

4️⃣ How long do they last?
Composite bonding: around 7–10 years, but it can stain and chip over time

Jeanne graduated from the University of Dundee in 2011 and began her career in general dentistry here in Glasgow. Alongside her NHS work, she completed a postgraduate qualification in sedation and gained accreditation in short-term orthodontics, continually refining her clinical skills

In 2015, she discovered a passion for facial aesthetics and the confidence it can bring. After two years working in a specialist facial aesthetics clinic and completing her Level 7 Diploma, she now focuses on aesthetic medicine alongside dentistry ✨

Using a simple scan box and smartphone, patients upload regular scans that allow us to check progress remotely. This means fewer in-practice visits, closer monitoring, and often shorter overall treatment times when aligners are being worn as advised

Aligners shouldn’t be painful. Some mild tenderness is normal in the first week or two as teeth begin to move, but this usually settles quickly. Once past the early stages, most patients find treatment comfortable 😊

After aligner treatment, retainers are essential! Teeth naturally want to move back, especially in the first few months, which is why we recommend lifelong retention. This can include discreet fixed retainers, removable night time retainers, or a combination of both to keep results stable long term

📍 Linda came to Queens Drive Dental Practice with an upper tooth that had become loose, was drifting and was causing repeated infections. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the tooth couldn’t be saved

Olivia carefully planned the next steps, creating a personalised treatment plan to replace the tooth with a dental implant. As there was limited bone in the area, additional bone regeneration was carried out to create the right foundation for the implant and support the best possible outcome
