The Power of Gratitude πŸ™πŸΌ

An attitude of gratitude helps us to appreciate the simple things in life.

Gratitude is a Buddhist practice that helps us to cultivate mindfulness, humility and awareness of our connection with others and our world around us.

Grateful for the support we get from our loved ones and our wider community.

Appreciation for the food we eat, the roof over our heads, the clothes on our backs.

Being grateful for every moment we are given to appreciate life in the present moment.

Mindfulness & the present moment πŸ™πŸΌ

Yoga and Buddhism teach us about the importance of being aware of the present moment.

With all of the distractions around us and within us it is hard to bring ourselves into the present moment.

But mindfulness is about awareness of our thoughts, feelings and body sensations. When we start to notice we start to delve deeper and bring about greater awareness.

Mindfulness is a type of meditation where we focus on ourselves:

Both traditions have influenced each other over time.

Yoga began approximately 5,000 years ago studying sacred texts, chanting and singing sacred hymns and different rituals aimed at reaching spiritual enlightenment.

Buddhism emerged around the 6th Century BCE studying, reciting prayers, practicing rituals aimed at reaching a state of liberation or freedom from the suffering in life.

Both of these practices share the same essence of attaining Enlightenment through the discipline of their spiritual practices.

Barbara is a yoga teacher, author and artist based in Australia.

Time away is time well spent β˜€οΈ

I can't believe that a whole month has passed by! Classes finished at the beginning of August and now it's time to return.

My month off has been busy with a break in Wales, looking after my grandchildren, gardening, walking, running and lots of time planning for my classes!

And I'm now ready to begin again. Feeling rested, refreshed and excited about returning to teach yoga!

Yoga gives us a space and time to journey from the external to the internal.

πŸ§πŸΌβ€β™€οΈOur external environment - proprioception.

Proprioception connects us with the position, movement, balance and coordination of our bodies in the space around us.

πŸ§πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈOur internal environment - interoception.

Interoception connects us to the internal state of our bodies and our emotions. Allowing us to connect with ourselves on a deeper level.

Having more awareness helps us to tune into the signals that connect the body and the brain.
