✨ Day in the life of a support worker doing 8-4 in the antenatal clinic ✨

To start the day I open up all the clinic rooms and make sure they’re clean and appropriately stocked with clinical equipment before setting up my own room. Then I log onto the computer and see what consultant/midwife clinics are running that day.

The main duties of a support worker working in antenatal clinic are…
🩺 ensuring blood pressure and urine dips are carried out on all patients who have a clinic appointment
🩹taking bloods
🌡️chaperoning doctors during patient examinations
📄inputting fetal screening results on patient records

Have you ever seen this machine and wondered what it does?
This is a Cardiotography machine otherwise referred to as a ‘CTG’. A CTG is used in pregnancy to monitor a baby’s heart rate and mother’s uterine contractions. The specific machine shown above is a Dawes Redman CTG and completes a computerised analysis which can can take up to 10 - 60 minutes. A CTG can only be used from 26 weeks onwards in pregnancy.

Meet marvellous midwife Maisy 🌸 Maisy has been a qualified midwife for over 3 years and has worked for MAU for over a year now! Maisy’s favourite thing about her job is meeting new people and getting to work in a fun close knit team 😊

Attention all 📣 As of today all of the Maternity Day Assessment Units BOOKED appointments will now be held on level 2 of the maternity block in the maternity and gynaecology clinic. When you arrive please check in at the reception desk. If you are referred to the maternity assessment unit via our triage telephone service, your GP, community midwife etc, you still need to head to level 3 of the maternity unit.

We have recently introduced paper forms of The Friends and Family test! You may already be aware of the test as it is also sent out to our service users digitally. The friends and family test allows you to give us feedback of each visit you have with us and helps us to improve our service 🏅
You can find the paper forms on the MAU front desk along with a letter box to post your responses.

Introducing 3 of our fabulous midwives for a fabulous Friday! On the left we have Charlotte who is completely new to the trust (this is her 4th shift!) and so far is loving the unit and her new colleagues! In the middle we have Sophie who has not long returned from maternity leave and is getting stuck right in and on the right we have Lindsay 💗
