We took to the streets of Reading to ask the public what we can do together to improve access to contraception.

We must keep the conversation alive and normalise these important discussions. Every voice matters. Your insights and experiences can help shape a more informed and supportive environment for everyone.

How comfortable are we talking about contraception? What and who influences contraceptive decisions? We asked women for their thoughts on how conversations about contraception impacts their contraceptive choices.

Talking about contraception is vital for increasing awareness and helping everyone make informed decisions about their health, but we also need to ensure that the information shared is clear, credible and balanced.

For more information about contraceptive options, visit our dedicated Women’s Health website: https://www.womenshealthmatters.co.uk/contraception.

Please always discuss with your doctor or nurse the best contraceptive option for you.

Knowledge is power when it comes to making informed decisions about your contraception choices and reproductive health. Knowing what options you could have and what questions to ask when discussing contraception with your healthcare professions could help address the barriers such as misinformation or cultural stigmas. So don’t wait – check your knowledge and explore your choices today.

Are people prepared to talk contraception? This year for we decided to take the theme "Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: Contraceptive Access For All" straight to the public to talk all things contraception.

Did you know that unintended pregnancy continues to pose a significant challenge for women and society, with rising abortion numbers in various regions across the UK?

Despite advances in contraceptive technology, barriers persist that prevent women from accessing and choosing the right contraceptive methods for their needs. Understanding the barriers is the first step to breaking them down. This year, we took to the streets of Reading to engage the public with three vital questions about contraception:

❓How much do you know about contraception?
❓Do we talk about contraception enough?
❓What can we do together to improve access?

However, we faced a challenge of our own – despite our efforts, we didn’t have much luck getting people to talk to us!

It’s crucial that we come together to break down barriers. We must keep these important conversations going and normalise them in our communities! And your voice matters!

So, did we manage to speak to anyone at all ? Stay tuned to find out…

⚽ At the home of just the kick of a ball away from our Reading HQ, our Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainers partnered with STAR - Supporters Trust at Reading FC and Talking Royals, a peer to peer support group, to train a group of new Mental Health First Aiders to support football fans at matches and beyond.

At Bayer, we’re proud to have a team of Mental Health First Aiders providing a first point of call for mental health support, available to employees across the business. Our MHFA trainers, Yvonne and Lucy, have trained over 100 members of to support themselves, colleagues, friends and family.

Mental health challenges can affect anyone, at any time, which is why we were pleased to extend our Mental Health First Aid initiative beyond the workplace and into our local community.

With further training sessions in the works for 2025, together we hope to create an inclusive and supportive environment, while helping to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health in football.

This , we’re sharing results from a recent Bayer survey in over 2,000 UK women. Despite growing awareness around women's health, the findings reveal significant gaps in how menopause is understood, particularly for Black and Asian British women.

Key findings from the survey:

🔍 Open Discussions: Women from ethnic minority communities are less likely to have open discussions about menopause.

🔍 Access to Menopause Healthcare Services: Over half (54%) of Black British women and 44% of Asian British women felt their ethnicity affects their access to menopause healthcare services.

🔍 Education Gaps: Education about menopause is worryingly low in some communities, with only 50% of Asian British women and 45% Black British women recognising the most common symptom – hot flushes – compared to 81% of their White counterparts.

🔍 Feeling Underserved: Women across all ethnic groups felt underserved with a mere 22% of women felt supported by their healthcare providers, and 64% don’t receive the necessary support from partners. Nearly half (49%) believed that men do not understand the challenges of menopause, leading to 57% of women surveyed said they suffer in silence.

With the findings from the Menopause Mandate’s menopause survey of almost 20,000 women that also released this week, it’s clear that more still needs to be done to improve menopause awareness and care for all women.

It’s time to start having open conversations about menopause and challenging barriers to education, support and care. Together, we can create a more inclusive environment that empowers women to navigate menopause confidently.
