6 ways to ease neck pain

Stress, poor sleep, and physical ailments over time can lead to a pain in the neck

Everyday life isn't kind to the neck. You may be all too familiar with that crick you get when you cradle the phone between your shoulder and ear, or the strain you feel after working at your computer.

Neck pain rarely starts overnight. It usually evolves over time. And it may be spurred by arthritis or degenerative disc disease, and accentuated by poor posture, declining muscle strength, stress, and even a lack of sleep

ROTATOR CUFF injury

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, keeping the head of the upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder. A rotator cuff injury can cause a dull ache in the shoulder that worsens at night.

Rotator cuff injuries are common and increase with age. These injuries may occur earlier in people who have jobs that require repeatedly performing overhead motions, such as painters and carpenters.

Physiotherapy can help with targeted treatment and exercises to address scapula muscle weakness, joint stability cuff weakness as well as improving neck and thoracic spine function to help reduce overload of rotator cuff tendons.

Do you suffer with short lived head provoked vertigo? It could be BPPV. We can help

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo — the sudden sensation that you're spinning or that the inside of your head is spinning. BPPV causes brief episodes of mild to intense dizziness. It is usually triggered by specific changes in your head's position more commonly when lying in bed or when your head is up or in the supine position

Diagnosing BPPV involves taking a detailed history. The clinician confirms the diagnosis by observing nystagmus — jerking of the person's eyes that accompanies the vertigo caused by changing head position. This is accomplished through a diagnostic test called the Dix-Hallpike maneuver.

BPPV is usually very treatable. The good news is that BPPV doesn’t indicate a serious health problem. Even so, dealing with your symptoms can be scary and frustrating.

Calling all runners -

Anterior knee pain, patellofemoral pain syndrome or runners knee …. these are all terms for pain felt at the front of your knee joint, under or around your knee cap.

Your knee cap sits in a groove on the thigh bone. If it moves out of the groove when you straighten your knee (maltracking), this can cause irritation and knee pain during everyday activities like walking and climbing stairs.

Physiotherapy is often a highly beneficial form of treatment – conditions such as patellofemoral pain, respond well to physiotherapy.

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, a part of your foot that connects your heel bone to your toes.

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include pain around the heel and arch of your foot. It may be worse in the morning.

Physiotherapy has been shown to be incredibly effective in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. Treatment for for plantar fasciitis is similar to the management of tendon pain. This includes managing the initial symptoms followed by gradually loading soft tissue to promote strengthening in order to prevent reoccurrence
