Remembrance Day – We Will Remember Them 🌺

On this day of reflection, we pause to honour the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

At Rushton Family Funerals, we stand with our community in remembrance and gratitude. Today, we not only remember those who fell in battle, but also those who returned home carrying the lasting effects of war, both seen and unseen.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Why Choose a Family Funeral Director?
During life’s most difficult moments, compassion and care matter more than ever.
Choosing a family-owned and run funeral director means putting your loved one in the hands of people who treat you like family — not just another number. We take pride in offering personal, heartfelt service, built on trust, tradition, and community.
❤️ We’re here for you 24/7, because grief doesn’t keep business hours.
🕯️ We get to know the families we serve.
🌹 We guide you through every detail with empathy, not pressure.
🏡 We’re part of your community, not a corporation.
At a time when everything feels overwhelming, let a family who truly understands help carry the weight.

Today is Emergency Services Day – a day to give thanks to the incredible people who dedicate their lives to keeping us all safe. 🚑🚓🚒

At Rushton's, we are proud to work closely with our local police and ambulance teams, and we see first-hand the compassion and professionalism they show in the most difficult of circumstances.

As a small gesture of our gratitude, we offer discounted professional fees to NHS staff, emergency service workers, and members of the armed forces in recognition of their service to our community and our country.

To all those who serve – thank you. 💙

The top hat worn by funeral directors holds symbolic, historical, and professional significance. Here’s a breakdown of why it’s important:

1. Symbol of Respect and Formality
The top hat is seen as a mark of dignity, respect, and solemnity. It communicates the serious and reverent tone appropriate for funeral services. By wearing it, the funeral director helps set the atmosphere of the ceremony and shows respect to the deceased and their loved ones.

2. Historical Tradition
The practice of wearing top hats by funeral directors dates back to the Victorian era, when top hats were part of formal dress for gentlemen. During that time, funeral customs were highly ritualized and formal, and the top hat became part of the official mourning attire.

3. Sign of Authority and Leadership
Much like a conductor’s baton or a military officer’s insignia, the funeral director’s top hat acts as a visual cue of their role as the leader and coordinator of the procession and ceremony. It helps mourners easily identify who is in charge during a time that can be emotionally disorienting.

4. Continuity
In many funeral homes, the top hat is a symbol of continuity and tradition. It often becomes part of the funeral home’s visual identity, reinforcing their image as a professional, time-honoured service provider.

5. Psychological Comfort
The presence of traditional attire like the top hat can offer a sense of stability and reassurance to mourners. Ritual and symbolism play a big role in grief processing, and such formal clothing can help provide structure to an emotionally intense experience.

While not all funeral directors wear top hats today, those who do are often consciously honouring these layers of meaning and tradition.
