Are you menopausal and struggling with thinning hair?

At the clinic, through our How2Menopause programme, we work with Monpure London, the world’s first dedicated scalp and hair health brand, designed to alleviate scalp discomfort and irritation, prevent hair thinning and promote stronger, healthier hair.

The onset of menopause and its hormonal changes are usually accompanied by hair thinning and a weakening of the scalp’s protective barriers, leading to increased scalp irritation, dryness, eczema and dandruff. However, there are other factors that can influence the hair and scalp during menopause, including high stress levels, nutrient deficiencies or thyroid conditions.

Do you struggle with hormone headaches and menstrual migraines? Today, we are taking a closer look at the crossover between the two:

Migraines and menopause are linked primarily through hormonal changes. During menopause, women experience significant fluctuations in oestrogen levels, which can impact the frequency and severity of migraines. Here are some key points about this link:
1 Hormonal fluctuations: oestrogen levels decline during menopause, leading to hormonal instability that can trigger migraines. This is similar to the way many women experience migraines in relation to their menstrual cycle.
2 Perimenopause: this transition period leading up to menopause is often marked by irregular menstrual cycles and fluctuating hormone levels. Many women report an increase in migraine frequency during this time.
3 Post-menopause when hormone levels stabilise at lower levels, some women find that their migraines improve or even disappear. However, this is not universal, and some women continue to experience migraines.
4 Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): some women use HRT to manage menopausal symptoms. HRT can affect migraines in different ways, sometimes improving them and sometimes making them worse, depending on the type and dosage of hormones used.
5 Other factors: aside from hormonal changes, other factors associated with menopause, such as stress, sleep disturbances, and changes in lifestyle, can also influence migraine patterns.

Understanding the link between migraines and menopause can help in managing migraines more effectively during this transitional period. Women experiencing migraines during menopause should consult with their healthcare provider to explore treatment options tailored to their specific needs.

As a parent, are you fed up with long NHS waiting lists and would like to have your child assessed, diagnosed and treated more quickly?

Hopefully we can help as we will soon be welcoming new team member Laura, a paediatric (children’s) physiotherapist, to the clinic on Tuesday mornings.

Laura qualified as a physiotherapist in 2002 and worked in the NHS for over fifteen years, initially with adults but then specialising in paediatric physiotherapy in 2013.

Continuing her specialism as a paediatric physio, Laura is experienced in working with children between 0-19 years of age with musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, neurological and neuromuscular conditions as well as children with co-ordination difficulties and developmental delay.

An initial assessment with Laura in the safe setting of the clinic, will last up to one hour with Laura asking a number of questions to take a thorough case and developmental history, as well as carrying out a range of physical assessments with your child.

Following this first appointment, a treatment plan will be developed jointly with Laura which may target areas such as managing pain, postural awareness, rehabilitation after injury and improving core stability.

It may also focus on areas such as working on gross motor skills in line with developmental milestones and balance and co-ordination activities.

So please do contact us at enquiries@holcombehealthclinic.co.uk or call 01634 817242 to discuss if we can be of benefit to you and your family.
