Happy Sunday Evening everyone!

In Body Balance on Bute this coming week the theme is Standing Taller ! 💪💪 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️

Standing taller is about more than “good posture” – it affects how your body feels and how your mind works.
• When we slump:
• The chest closes and the head moves forward.
• The spine compresses and breathing becomes shallower.
• Front-body muscles get short and tight, while back-body muscles become weak and overworked.
• When we lengthen the spine and gently open the chest:
• The body can breathe more efficiently.
• Joints line up better, so movement feels easier.
• Muscles share the work more evenly, reducing strain and fatigue.
• Our posture constantly sends signals to the brain:
• A collapsed, “protective” posture is often linked with tiredness, stress and low mood.
• A tall, open posture sends a different message: “I’m safe. I’m here. I can handle this.”

• Research suggests that standing more upright can:
• Boost feelings of confidence and energy.
• Influence how others see us.
• Help us feel more “present” and grounded in ourselves.
• In my “Stand Taller” sessions we work on:
• Strength: so your core, back and hips can support a naturally upright posture.
• Mobility: so your chest, shoulders and spine have the freedom to open and move.
• Awareness: so you learn what strong, relaxed alignment actually feels like in your own body.
• The goal isn’t a stiff, military stance.
• It’s a tall, relaxed, natural posture.
• A way of standing and moving that says: “I deserve to take up space in class and in life”

This weeks theme inside Body Balance on Bute is core strength connection starting off with today’s lunchtime Yoga Class.

Importantance of having a strong core is….

Stabilises pelvis and the spine
Improves posture
Strong foundation for all movement
Supports mobility
reduces lower back pain
supports the whole body allowing you to carry out every day tasks
Also supports athletic ability
And having a strong core makes feel good!

This week inside Body Balance on Bute we are focusing on bone health and strength. The process for making strong bones is called Bone Modelling.

Your bones are a living tissue which listens to how we move stand and balance. Everytime the bones are overloaded is a deposit to our bone bank for the future!

Strong bones are made by weight bearing and resistance which supports balance and falls prevention and posture and spinal alignment.

For people with osteoporosis in their spine it’s important to when folding forward to hip hinge as opposed to rounding the spine.

Asanas practiced this week for strengthening bones

Cat/Cow spine strength and flexibility

Plank poses for strong bones in wrists, arms and shoulders

Chair pose for building bone strength in the fumer bones ( long leg bones )

Warrior 1 and Warror 2 for strong bones In feet, ankles, legs and pelvis

Simple balancing poses for strengthen ankles pelvis and legs bones and to improve balance.

In Pilates we included the above along with side lying leg raises, one leg circle, floating table top, bear pose and gate pose. 💪💪

Also a healthy diet with fish 🐟 and Vitamin D will support healthy bones 🦴

Tight hips causes pain, discomfort and postural issues.

Caused by

Sitting for long periods, desk jobs, driving, watching too much Netflix 🙃

Repetitive movements as in cycling and running

Even stress, being constantly in flight or fight mode causes contraction and tight deep hip flexors.

Amongst other we practiced Lizard Pose for a deep stretch of the hip flexors.

Hope everyone had a relaxing Sunday, weather on Bute has been quite windy so today for me was about resting ready for the week ahead.

This coming week classes are mostly full however there are a few spaces in tomorrows Yoga 12.30pm Mill Cottage Hall and Friday Pilates 10am Mill Cottage Hall.

Ping me a DM for more details. Both classes are suitable for beginners levels.

Below is a breathing exercise called box breathing. Practiced, will calm nervous system, reduce stress and improve focus. 🧘 should you need it in the coming week.
