Lovely spring picnic with Yogi ClareBear today.

I wrote earlier on my page about the importance of connection and fostering relationships and this was a perfect example... taking some time out to sit together in nature and catch up on our respective days.

It would have been so easy to stay behind the desk being busy but making some space in the day for social connection and getting outdoors makes for not only a more productive afternoon but also a happier Meg!! 🥰

Happy Tuesday people - stay connected 💜🤝💚

Spring has sprung...

Last Saturday marked the vernal equinox or the first day of astronomical spring, which varies slightly each year due to the 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth’s rotational axis ( ).

Blossom is everywhere, the first green of hawthorn is emergent and bulbs are sprouting to offer a splash of colour against the winter-long palette of brown.

We have some pretty feisty robins vying for territory with their song and a song thrush keeps me company each evening as I work. ☺️

Sights and sounds of new life are everywhere and spending just a few minutes outdoors at this time of year is enough to lower cortisol levels, reduce your heart rate and blood pressure and rejuvenate your flagging energy levels.

If you are struggling with feelings of pressure or stress this week, take just a few minutes out of your day to stand outside and breathe.

Nature is food for the soul.

Sometimes it’s not pretty...

The world of social media can look like an endless stream of beautiful meals, bodies, sentiments and vistas and when we compare this to our own “real” lives it can feel like an insurmountable chasm. Sometimes pictures and stories are inspirational, they give us tips, ideas and help us find our tribe. But sometimes they can feel like a silent pressure, judgement or highlight what is ‘missing’ from our own lives.

None of us are immune - we all have those days.

It’s been my personal preference to stay away from social media to manage these feelings of inadequacy and to ensure I was devoting as much of my time and energy on my actual life as I was on my ‘online’ one.

For a variety of reasons, I’m back and I’m sharing both knowledge and insights where I’m able but today I wanted to bring you this one....

My lunch.

It’s not pretty, it’s definitely not inspiring, but it is REAL.

Today is my on call day, it’s often busy and hectic. I leave early in the morning before the kids are in school, and having made what feels like 15 packed lunches, sometimes I don’t have much time to make anything interesting for my own.

But I try to stick to good whole foods so I’m not grabbing for convenience.
Today I wilted some spinach with broccoli and some falafels and had crudités of raw veggies and hummus dip. I have plenty of fruit for snacks and ate a good portion of overnight oats and berries earlier.

It might not be pretty or interesting but for anyone feeling just that little bit inadequate today, hopefully it was worth the share!

Sometimes what you need is a little pick-me-up!

Meg (aka ) made this for me the other day as a second breakfast. She really does spoil me 🤗

Got to love peanut butter and jam 🤤 It’s one of my absolute faves 🥜 🍓 and feels like a proper treat!

Who’s with me?? All in favour say 🙋🏻‍♀️

The upside of working in healthcare during a global pandemic??? I get to wear pyjamas all day 😆☺️

Sometimes it’s just the little things that make all the difference. Today has been a long day and to be honest I am tired and weary, but finding space for positivity and optimism can have significant benefits on our health.

Here are a few ways we can achieve more positive thinking...

💜 Focus on the good things
💙 Practice gratitude & keep a gratitude journal
💚 Start every day with a positive affirmation
💛 Open yourself up to humour
🧡 Spend more time with positive people
❤️ Practice positive self talk

Why not try one or two of these to improve your outlook?

I’m a little late posting for International Women’s Day this year, but I figured better late than never!

This year, are focusing on challenging, change and the choice to challenge.

We are all responsible for our own thoughts, feelings and behaviours, all of the time. It never hurts to challenge your own thoughts and beliefs because this is how we change. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and gender inequality. We can all choose to search for and celebrate women’s achievements - however big or small.

Together we can all help to create an inclusive world, and as their website states: “from challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge”.

I hope Meg and I are teaching our girls that inequality shouldn’t exist and never to accept it when it does. Teaching our children to keep open minds and to help others to do the same - if we can do that then I say we’re winning! So my hand is up high to show I’m in 🙋🏻‍♀️

🌍 Today our eldest daughter (9) held her second family Eco meeting.
💡She researched it, organised, planned and set us all activities to do.
🥦 We created arty plant based plates which we then had for lunch.
🌊 We talked about hydroelectric energy and did an experiment looking at water pressure.
This afternoon we went to a park where she insisted on litter picking 🗑 and then came home and made a poster using rubbish she’d found.
So proud of her for standing up for what she feels is important and for holding us all to account.
We can all do better ♻️

☝🏼 Swipe to see a neat little trick Meg taught me so you don’t waste your humble broccoli stalk 🥦 (and it’s tasty 😋)

1. Trim off the outer layer, which can be a bit fibrous and tough to eat.
2. Cut into batons.
3. Dip in humous or dip of choice!
Job done!!

Another helping of greens/cruciferous veggies for the day, less waste, and it’s yummy! Winning 😊

Wednesday treat dinner!

Spaghetti carbonara made with a silken tofu and cashew cream, and mushroom marinaded in soy sauce, maple syrup, cider vinegar and olive oil (baked until crispy 🤤)

I roughly followed a recipe from our .tv cookbook. It was quick, easy, and delicious - just what was needed after a long hump day.

Sometimes self care comes in the form of comfort food. For different reasons, this is exactly what Meg and I needed this evening 😋
