Stress sets off a strong chain reaction in the body, releasing hormones like adrenaline & cortisol that gear you up for “fight or flight,” but when this response is triggered too often or for too long, it can start to take a toll.

How stress shows up physically 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️🧍
Common physical symptoms include:
Headaches and muscle pain
Skin reactions like rashes or hives
Digestive issues
Dizziness or feeling faint
Sleep problems
Heart palpitations

Experiences become physical:
When something overwhelms you, your nervous system stores that pattern. Even years later, your body can react as if the threat is still present.

The body speaks when the mind goes quiet:
Tension, fatigue, stomach issues, headaches, or sudden emotional waves can be the body’s way of expressing what hasn’t been processed.

Survival mode leaves a mark:
If you spend too long in fight‑or‑flight, your body adapts to that state — staying hyperalert, jumpy, or exhausted even when life is calm.

It can feel frustrating, when your counsellor or therapist doesn’t give you advice or tell you what to do, but remember…
• advice doesn’t create lasting change
• your answers are already inside you
• our job is to help you understand yourself
• we want you to feel capable, not dependent
• advice can’t teach self-trust
• your life is yours, not ours
• what works for someone else might not work for you
• we want you to navigate life with confidence
• figuring things out yourself builds resilience

You’re allowed to bring things into therapy even when they don’t feel “big enough.”
The small thoughts.
The passing worries.
The feelings that flicker in and out.
Often it’s these smaller things are the ones that open the door to everything else 💚

Do you struggle with identifying your mood & feelings?

Our emotions & moods are such a vital part of our daily life. They can have a big influence on what we do, how we connect with others, & influence our decision making. Not everyone finds it easy to be in touch with their emotions & moods. Knowing what you feel & why you feel it is important, because then you have better insight into what you need to do to change it.

The mood meter (a tool created by Marc Brackett, Professor at Yale Center of Emotional Intelligence) is often used to help children & adults to pinpoint what their mood is.

Why is this important?
It’s important because if you are in touch with your emotions and moods & understand the reason why you feel a certain way you can than make more informed decisions based on what feels right for you.

A lot of my clients that track their mood & emotions have advised it really helps them feel connected to themselves & has helped them identify what triggers or affects their moods & emotions, so we can then explore these in more detail so they are able to gain more understanding & confidence to make the right choices & decisions for themselves.

As a new week begins, I hope you give yourself permission to ease into it.
You don’t have to have everything figured out today.
You don’t have to arrive with energy or clarity or motivation.
Just arriving is enough.

A new week can be a soft reset—
a chance to breathe, to notice what you need,
to move at a pace that feels kind to your mind and body.
Maybe this week brings small moments of relief.
Maybe it offers a quiet win, a gentle surprise,
or simply a little more space than you expected.
Whatever comes, I hope you meet it with compassion for yourself, & the understanding that you’re allowed to take things one moment at a time 💚

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, & a theme that’s in the spot light is Social Masking.

Social masking can involve changing how you speak, forcing eye contact, mirroring others’ behaviour, or hiding natural responses in order to fit in with social expectations.

While this can help people navigate social situations, doing it consistently can be exhausting & may contribute to burnout & mental health challenges.

Other symptoms & outcomes of social masking are:
*Anxiety – fear of being “found out” or judged
*Low mood or depression – from feeling like you can’t be your real self.
*Emotional disconnection – difficulty identifying what you truly feel vs what you perform.
*Loss of identity – “Who am I really?”
*People-pleasing patterns – prioritising others’ comfort over your own needs.
*Low self-worth – feeling like your authentic self isn’t acceptable.
*Difficulty with vulnerability – fear of dropping the mask.
*Resentment or loneliness – even when surrounded by people.

It can affect you Physically & impact your Nervous System:
* Chronic stress – always being “on”
* Fatigue – especially after social interactions
* Sensory overwhelm (for neurodivergent individuals)

Masking isn’t “bad” — it’s often a learned survival strategy.
The goal isn’t to remove it completely, but to:
* create safe spaces to unmask
* build self-acceptance
* develop relationships where authenticity feels possible

By talking about masking, will help build a greater understanding & create spaces where neurodivergent people feel safe to be themselves 💚

How do you know you’re burnt out?

Burnout is your soul asking for silence
If you can relate to any of these thoughts your body maybe warning you that you need rest.
“I’m tired... but I don’t know why.”
“I’m doing everything right... yet something feels off.”
“Why am I putting things off”
“Why can’t I sleep when I’m exhausted”

Thoughts like these is your inner world saying:
I need space to breathe
I need fewer expectations & more alignment
I need pauses, not just productivity
I need to be heard, not pushed to do more.

Giving yourself the gift of silence & rest isn’t laziness - It’s regulation!

When you don’t listen to the signals your body is giving you, it starts speaking louder—
through exhaustion, irritability, emotional numbness, or disconnection & in some instances can force you to stop through illness.

If your counting down the hours until this weekend, because this week as been too much - why not give yourself the gift of rest & relaxation this weekend, carve time out for you to do something you enjoy that will help you recharge & reset 💚
