The article highlights the importance of good support if you live with PD. My father was prescribed ropinirole and was warned quite strongly about it potentially having harmful side-effects. His consultant at the time was lovely and closely monitored his progress. Because he was concerned, I became his power of attorney and he told me to intervene if medication altered his behaviour and changed anything from normal. Luckily, he did not suffer any serious adverse side-effects. As a carer for people living with Parkinson’s, it shocks and saddens me to think that people prescribed this drug are not all supported in the same way by their healthcare providers.

More than 250 people contacted us describing impulsive behaviour side effects from prescription drugs.

Sad stories like this are the reason why it is important to have a private carer with an Enhanced DBS. If you are welcoming someone into your home to care for your loved ones, they should show you their certificate and give you ample time to check it is currently valid on gov.uk

This World Mental Health Day, we’re bringing awareness to common non-movement symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Around 50% of people with PD will experience a form of depression and up to 40% will experience an anxiety disorder.
