Congratulations to Dr Maeve Keaney, former consultant microbiologist at Salford Royal Hospital, who has been awarded an MBE for services to refugee doctors in Greater Manchester.

In 2003, Maeve founded the Refugee and Asylum Seekers Centre for Healthcare Professionals Education (REACHE), a pioneering programme that has supported hundreds of refugee and asylum seeker doctors and nurses to regain their professional qualifications and return to clinical practice in the NHS.

We're delighted that many of these colleagues have been active in research at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and we send our warmest congratulations to Maeve and everyone who has worked with her and supported this programme that translates untapped clinical expertise into long-term value for the NHS.

She was also awarded a lifetime achievement award at the 2024 GM Health and Care Champion Awards.

Remember, icy, snowy, or paths covered in leaves during winter can make slips trips and falls more likely.

With colder temperatures, it’s important to dress warmly and wear shoes with good grip. Gloves can help protect your hands if you do slip.

Also, remember to keep your driveway and paths clear of ice and snow.

Lovely news as we head into the festive period.

Our Live Donor Team have now supported their 26th Living Kidney Donation of 2025 surpassing last year's total. 💙 👏

Earlier this week, our incredible Live Donor Team at Salford celebrated a huge achievement — their 25th Living Kidney Donation of 2025 being completed! 🙌

This matches last year’s total, and we couldn’t be prouder of the donors, recipients, and the dedicated team who make this possible.

Thank you to everyone who plays a part in giving the gift of life.

After 12 years in nursing, Lorissa has finally found a role that fits her life.

“I have been qualified for 12 years and currently work as a community staff nurse with the Out of Hours team in Rochdale. District nursing appealed to me because I wanted to care for patients in the place where they feel most comfortable, and to help prevent hospital admissions wherever possible.

Working within the Out of Hours team means being there for patients during the night, often at their most vulnerable. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to provide reassurance, support, and high-quality care in their own homes at a time when they may feel frightened or alone.

One of the most meaningful aspects of district nursing for me is caring for end-of-life patients, ensuring their wishes are respected and that they can remain at home, surrounded by the people they love.

Working Out of Hours also gives me a healthy work–life balance, allowing me to be there for my children during the day, which is something I really value.”

If you’re looking for a nursing role that offers flexibility, autonomy, and meaningful patient care then join our Out of Hours team. We’re currently looking to recruit a Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse on a 30 hours per week permanent contract.

Northern Care Alliance NHS Group

From April 2016, Salford Royal provided leadership and operational support to The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (which currently runs The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Rochdale Infirmary and North Manchester General Hospital) following its CQC Inspection in February 2016.

This arrangement was formalised under a management agreement in April 2017, and paved the way for the establishment of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group. From the 1st April 2017, the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) was launched, bringing together over 17,000 staff, 2000 beds and serving a population of over 1 million.

With an operating budget of £1.3bn, our new Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites and local healthcare services. Four Care Organisations for Oldham, Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester and Salford are responsible for delivering safe, high quality and reliable care to the local communities they serve.
