This Remembrance Day, we pause to honour those who served — and those who still serve — with courage, sacrifice and quiet strength. Their stories live on not only in history, but in the objects, materials and memories they left behind.

At Hepburn & Hughes, we are privileged to work with fragments of that history — pieces of aircraft that once soared through wartime skies, such as the iconic Spitfire.
‌
Each design we create is made with respect for the people and moments those materials represent. Today, we simply remember. For every story of bravery, every act of service, every name never forgotten — we give thanks.
‌
Explore our heritage collections, inspired by history and remembrance. And for every sale of WW2 cufflinks and jewellery, we donate £5 to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity via Work for Good.

It's been a busy morning! At 8.30am our gemstone order arrived from India 🤩

I was supposed to be going to the gym, but that got ditched as I could not resist unpacking the box and getting all our sold out products back online 😀

So in the box we have a variety of

And I'm so happy with the quality and finish of them 🙏

We have a great relationship with our Silversmith in India now.

✅He sends us pictures and videos of all the gemstones he's sourced before they're set in the sterling silver frames.

✅He advises us on size, design and weight to keep our costs down (has anyone has seen silver prices recently 😱)

✅He double checks our order form where we've duplicated or not made things clear.

✅There are no MOQ, which is brilliant for us being a small business we often only want less than 10 of each item.

And in return we pay straight away and don't nitpick over small mistakes.

At the end of the day good business is all about the relationships and trust you build with people

Sharing my purchases from last week's shopping spree🛍️

⭐A commemorative ceramic tray produced by Wedgewood to celebrate Concorde setting a Guinness World book of records in 1996 for the fastest transatlantic commercial flight

⭐A stowage tray, again from Concorde

⭐A piece of Lancaster Bomber fuselage. Now that we have The International Bomber Command Centre as one of our wholesalers I'm always grateful to find more pieces like this.

However I'm particularly excited by the ceramic tray as it's very different to any Concorde products we've upcycled before.

They'll go into production after Christmas but if anyone is interested in what will be a very limited edition set of cufflinks or jewellery made from the tray then please let me know.

Drum roll... today we're celebrating Hepburn & Hughes 7th Birthday.🥳🎉

This feels like a huge milestone and one I'm so blooming proud of.
‌
Did you know 50% of new businesses fail in the first 3 years with only an estimated 30% reaching the 7 year mark 😯
‌
So today Lou and I are giving ourselves a huge pat on the back!🙌🏻
‌
And of course I thought 7 years and 7 facts would be appropriate....
‌
⭐We've enjoyed year on year growth...but
‌
⭐We didn't pay ourselves for the first 18 months.
‌
⭐We've chosen to keep it small, we're very much a heart led business, and want it to remain a family business which we work around the kids.
‌
⭐We survived the pandemic, ironically with everyone forced online we benefitted from it, despite spiralling costs and an uncertain economy.
‌
⭐Lou was able to give up her job as an editor to work full time on H&H
‌
⭐We've ventured into wholesale, with the National Museum of Royal Navy, International Bomber Command Centre and The House of Commons all selling our products.
‌
⭐The learning curve has been HUGE.... With my background in finance and Lou's in magazine editing we knew NOTHING about e-commerce. But we've not been scared to fail forward - that's how you learn.
‌
But most importantly we love working together. Lou had been part of our family for years (her and my brother finally tied the knot last year❤️ ) but deciding to run a business together has honestly been one of the best things we ever made. She's now a best friend too and that beats all the other business milestones🥰
‌
Next week we are heading out to celebrate when Lou comes to stay🥳

Hepburn & Hughes

We are Louise and Zoe, and we come from very different backgrounds – Louise from the media, while Zoe comes from the world of finance, but we both have a passion for unusual and stylish jewellery. Using sterling silver and a range of unusual products such as Clarice Cliff plates, ancient fossils and shells found in South-East Asia, we design unique pieces of jewellery including pendants, earrings, rings and brooches. Based in Kent and Derbyshire, we are inspired by items found in the natural world as well as vintage designs, and we love Art Deco styles! We hope you enjoy your visit to our shop.
