Our monthly Countdown was back this week, led by our Head of Housekeeping Wendy, and it proved to be a competitive session.

Today’s game focused on the Letters Round, challenging residents to find the longest word from the board, followed by the Conundrum, which had everyone watching closely as the letters came together.

A big well done to Gill, who was first to solve the conundrum 👏

We’re delighted to welcome Daisy, our new Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coordinator, to the Outram Fields family! We’re so excited to have her join us and look forward to getting to know her better over the coming weeks.

This morning, residents continued our Animals in Hibernation project, getting creative with paint, pens and crayons 🎨. We were also joined by our wonderful volunteer Greg, who shared a book about Sheffield in the 1970s. Greg reminisced about the city centre and his favourite childhood memories, which sparked lots of wonderful conversations and stories from our residents.

This afternoon, Daisy got well and truly stuck in with a series of dominoes games, providing the perfect opportunity to chat, laugh and share ideas about all the exciting plans we have coming up at Outram Fields. It’s been a lovely first day together! 😊♟️

A gentle Sunday at Outram Fields 🌿

Our day began with our online Church of England service, which is offered every Sunday, giving residents a peaceful and reflective start to the day.

Later on, we enjoyed a tactile and sensory activity using plasticine. Residents got creative with their designs or simply enjoyed the calming experience of shaping and moulding the plasticine, helping to relax the nervous system and promote a sense of calm. 🌷

In the afternoon, Ellen read a beautiful story called ‘The Bird and the Whale’ and shared an accompanying animation showing how the story unfolds. It was a lovely, gentle way to unwind and reflect after a busy and enjoyable weekend at Outram Fields 🐦🐋

Rest, Restore & Reminisce 🌎 💫

We’ve continued our gentle start to the New Year with calming and enjoyable activities, including Armchair Travels and Dominoes.

Our morning Armchair Travels session took us to warm and sunny Australia 🇦🇺 After watching a short documentary about the Great Barrier Reef, Blue Mountains National Park, and Sydney Harbour Beach, residents completed a fun quiz and shared their own memories of visiting Australia — a lovely way to learn and reminisce together.

Dominoes remains a firm favourite at Outrun Fields, and we made sure to fit in several games this week! A special mention to Wendy, our Housekeeping Manager, who stepped in and brought some fierce competition to the table♟️ 😄

We’ve also been busy saying goodbye to Christmas, de-decorating ‘the halls’ and turning the page ready for a new year — including a fond farewell to our cheeky Mr Elf who doesn’t want to go! 🎄👋

✨ A Week of Rest & Rejuvenation ✨

This week has been about winding down and restoring our energy after the Christmas festivities. We’ve focused on mindful, relaxing activities to help us feel refreshed for the New Year 🌱

Residents enjoyed a calming art activity, decorating a hedgehog picture using paint, pens, and tissue paper, while learning about hibernation and how animals prepare for winter. It was a lovely session to unwind and get creative 🎨🦔

While Community Wellness Services are on their Christmas break, we used YouTube armchair exercise videos to keep our bodies gently moving 💪🪑

This week has been a gentle reminder of the importance of listening to our bodies and minds after a busy celebration period 💙

As the year turns, we take a quiet moment to remember the residents we have lost over the past year, who were a big part of Outram Fields.

Each person brought their own unique personality to our home — their stories, humour and presence shaping daily life here. Some had been with us from the very beginning, helping to form the heart and character of Outram Fields as it is today.

We are deeply grateful to the families who entrusted us with the care of their loved ones. It has been a privilege to support them and to share in their lives.

As we step into the new year, we carry these memories with us with gratitude and respect, and continue our commitment to care delivered with warmth, dignity and compassion. 🕯️

🎉 Happy New Year from Outram Fields! 🎉

A big Happy New Year to everyone from all of us at Outram Fields 🥂
This evening we moved onto a glass of bubbly and toasted the New Year — a little earlier than midnight, just the way we like it, so everyone could enjoy a comfortable and restful night’s sleep ✨

We’re looking forward to another fantastic year ahead, filled with many more special memories. We’re excited to continue growing our community and making Outram Fields go from strength to strength, making our home even better for our residents, families, and team 💙

Here’s to a bright and happy year ahead! 🌟

Welcoming in the New Year - Sydney Style!🎆

This morning, our residents enjoyed watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks livestream from the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge 🇦🇺
We celebrated together with a refreshing soft drink and plenty of smiles all around 🍷 ✨

Celebrations are most meaningful when they suit the individual, and we love adapting milestones and traditions so everyone can enjoy them in their own way. Together, we sang Auld Lang Syne, shared memories, and reminisced about New Year traditions and holidays in Australia.

A truly wonderful way to welcome the New Year (a little bit early) filled with connection, joy, and cherished memories 🎇

Last week we were delighted to welcome the wonderful Luke Asawin Pianist and musician friends, who treated our residents to a beautiful Christmas Carol performance, complete with a visit from Father Christmas himself! 🎅🎶

A huge thank you to Luke for returning to Outram Fields after his first term at university — it meant so much to have you back. As always, our residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the festive cheer you all brought to the home.

As the Christmas season comes to a close, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has visited the home to entertain and offer activities, the lovely relatives and friends who have spent time with us and helped make the season so special, and of course our wonderful staff for sharing this festive period with our community.

Most importantly, thank you to our amazing residents, who truly make Outram Fields a home ❤️

✨Weekend Round Up at Outram Fields ✨

🧁 Baking Chocolate Tiffin
Residents enjoyed a sensory baking session, sharing memories while making and tasting delicious tiffin.

🙏 Church of England Online Service
We had a full house for the online service, highlighting the importance of regular, faith-filled activities for spiritual wellbeing.

🎶 Live Music with Rebekah Austin
Rebekah Austin brought joy with 50s and 60s favourites. Residents sang along, danced, and had great fun – what a lovely post-Christmas boost!

Days like these remind us how meaningful activities, music, and togetherness enrich daily life and bring so much happiness to our home ✨

Last weekend we were delighted to welcome Octopus Saxophone Quartet to Outram Fields as part of our festive entertainment programme. Their beautifully calming performance of Christmas carol classics created a relaxed and reflective atmosphere, enjoyed by residents, relatives and the team alike.

It was a lovely way to pause, listen and enjoy the familiar sounds of Christmas together 🎷🎷🎷🎷
