♟️ Tuesday Games Club at Outram Fields ♟️

Our Tuesday evenings at Outram Fields have become something really special 💛
Residents gathering around the tables for dominoes, Scrabble and Rummikub, friendly competition and great conversation.

What started as a games night has grown into new friendships, familiar faces, and a regular space where our community truly connects. The weekly evening session has proven that sometimes all it takes is a game, a table, and a bit of time together to bring people closer.🎲✨

Getting creative for Groundhog Day 🦫🎨

Earlier this week we spent an afternoon of mask decorating, word puzzles and good company.

We were joined by our work experience students Phoebe and Maisy, who spent time supporting and chatting with residents throughout the session.

Sporty morning at Outram Fields 🏅

Our residents enjoyed a relaxed but competitive sports session, taking part in quoits and indoor bowls. These familiar games are a great way to encourage gentle movement, coordination and balance, while also supporting focus and concentration.

Just as importantly, activities like this create shared moments — cheering each other on, enjoying a bit of friendly rivalry, and spending time together in a social setting.

Toddler visit 💕

We loved welcoming a local toddler group to Outram Fields for a very special Valentine’s activity. The children carefully painted dough hearts with our residents, to hand out around the home as a Valentine’s surprise.

Intergenerational activities like this are incredibly valuable. They encourage conversation, laughter and shared purpose, while giving residents the opportunity to connect with younger generations and enjoy the energy and spontaneity children bring. For the toddlers, it’s a gentle introduction to kindness, creativity and spending time with others.

A simple activity, but one that filled the home with warmth ahead of Valentine’s Day. 💗

It was a pleasure to welcome Naomi and Carolyn from Loxley Park Assisted Living - Avery Healthcare to Outram Fields for a look around.

These visits are always valuable, giving us the opportunity to share insight, explore how different settings support people at various stages of later life, and build a strong understanding of what each environment offers.

We’re very much looking forward to visiting Loxley Park next week to see their assisted living community and learn more about their facilities.

A varied and connected day at Outram Fields 💙

❤️ Valentine’s decorations were made in the morning, offering a chance for creativity, conversation and gentle fine-motor work.

⛪ Our church service provided a familiar and meaningful moment for reflection and routine.

🎲 Board games in the evening encouraged focus, problem-solving and social interaction, with plenty of friendly discussion along the way.

A varied day like this supports wellbeing in different ways, giving residents choice, purpose and the opportunity to spend time together in ways that feel natural and enjoyable.

Today we were pleased to host two community events at Outram Fields.

This morning, we welcomed the Tuesday Talk Club back for its second talk of 2026. The session, Garden Birds, was delivered by John Kirkman from the British Trust for Ornithology. All today’s subscriptions (£65) from the group will be donated to the Trust — thank you to John for his time and generosity.

In the afternoon, we welcomed members of the Parkinson’s UK Sheffield support group for an informative session on living well with Parkinson’s, led by Dr Bhanu Ramaswamy.

Opening our doors to local groups and organisations is an important part of how we stay connected with the wider community, and it was a pleasure to host both sessions today.

🧘‍♀️🎯 Regular Movement at Outram Fields 🎾🧘‍♂️

We had our busiest week yet with Community Wellness Services, and it’s been wonderful to see so much energy and enthusiasm from our residents!

Our movement and games sessions strike the perfect balance between fun and exercise, encouraging participation, engagement, and plenty of smiles along the way. This week they brought out the bullseye mat and enjoyed some balloon tennis, adding a healthy dose of friendly competition 🎈🎯

Our Tai Chi sessions offer a more focused approach to movement, supporting flexibility, strength, stamina, and coordination. It’s inspiring to see our residents’ commitment to staying active and maintaining their mobility, reflected in how popular and well-attended these sessions continue to be.

A lovely rhythm to the day at Outram Fields.

Yesterday morning was spent baking flapjacks together — weighing, mixing and sharing stories along the way. Activities like this support dexterity, focus and confidence, while also creating a strong sense of purpose and teamwork.

In the afternoon, the rewards were enjoyed properly, with freshly baked flapjacks served in our cinema during a relaxed film showing.

Simple moments, thoughtfully planned, can make a meaningful difference to wellbeing.

🎨 Crafting Corner 🎨

Our residents enjoyed a relaxing and creative morning painting their coiled snake pots from our Animals in Hibernation project. It was a lovely, chatty session, joined by our fantastic volunteer Daisy and Phoebe, who is currently completing her work experience with us here at Outram Fields. 💬 🐍

Spending time connecting with art is a wonderful way to soothe the nervous system, encourage hand-eye coordination, and explore creative expression. It was lovely to see everyone so focused, calm, and proud of what they created ✨🖌️

On Thursday evening our General Manager, Donna held her very popular Pub Quiz Night. The subject this month was classic films and the teams were challenged to spell Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious😂 Name the 7 Dwarfs and remember which film the line 'Frankly My Dear, I Don't Give a Damn' came from😊 All whist enjoying a glass of wine and a packet of crisps. Well done to Team Gill who came first🎉👏
Quizzes are good for the brain, strengthening long term memory, through active recall and of course boost engagement and laughter❤️

What a fantastic Friday at Outram Fields! 🎶✨

This week’s entertainment saw the brilliant Gerry Graham treat us to a spectacular Legends Show, with much-loved covers of Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison, and of course the one and only Elvis Presley. 💃🕺

We loved Gerry’s fabulous fancy dress and bold, infectious energy – it had everyone smiling! Residents were up dancing around, singing along, or happily toe-tapping to the music. 🎤❤️

A huge thank you to Gerry for joining us and making the day so special. We can’t wait to welcome you back! 👏🌟
