SUNDAY YIN

This evening with Aimee 🍃
** New class time **

Sunday night Yin will now be at the later time of 7pm. 🍃🍂🌾
As the seasons change it feels natural to wind down a little later. The lovely thing about Yin is that you can still practice even if you’ve recently eaten, as we settle into relaxation mode this if anything will support digestion. So don’t worry if you’re full of Yorkshire puddings!

What to expect from a Yin yoga class?

Yin yoga is a practice of paying attention, it’s gentle. It’s a quiet exploration of inner space.
In a world where we rarely make time to do nothing its an opportunity to dial down, centre in and purposefully rest. It’s a low lying practice where we stay close to the ground and intentionally marinate in stillness and silence.
As we dwell in poses, we bask in space and overtime tension finds an organic pathway of release. It’s a moment to step aside and allow your body to catch up on its to do list.

Booking is available in my bio 💚

"I’m sharing my perception not the truth, the truth is in your experience." Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen

I love this photo that snapped of me falling. I get a real feeling of movement and life in this image.

To me that’s something yoga asana (posture) can really celebrate, life; energy & expression, all of which can feel so different on any given day.

It’s interesting how a perceived ‘falling’ or ‘failing’ can bring us back into relationship with our own aliveness & humanity. Not to mention humility.

I’m excited to be back offering my Monday evening class tomorrow from home. What was Slow Flow , is now Feeling, Form & Flow, which feels more in line with what that class already was.

Join me at 5.30 - 6.45pm - all are welcome regardless of experience.

Five days of flow ~ An online series

🍂🍃Transitioning with ease 🍃🍂

As summer starts to fade, we find ourselves in September. I think of September as the liminal space between two extremes. Like the quiet stillness between the in breath and the out breath. The quiet suspension between day and night.
In September the light becomes more golden and there’s a chill in the air, we begin to negotiate the seasonal transition between Summer and Autumn. This time of year is associated with the element of Earth which in Chinese Medicine facilitates smooth transitions. This supportive element is the axis which all of the other elements rotate around, an unchanging foundation, the very ground which we stand on and the inner compass which helps us to find our way forward. During periods of feeling unsettled it can be easy to become unfocused and lack direction, we can fall into patterns of overthinking and worry about things which are out of our control. During changes and transitions the ritual of a regular practice can be a really helpful anchor.

I’m offering a sunrise (ish) daily practice to cultivate clarity of direction and embody Earths unwavering steadiness.
We will explore intentional movement, shapes that with intention become gestures. Seeking nourishment from the ground, dwelling in the mystery of the morning where we don’t know how are day will unfold.
Allowing time to appreciate how a regular practice can remind us of who we are and what matters when things feel off balance and groundless.

Time ~ 7:15am - 8am
Where ~ Online
Price ~ £25

Unity Yoga ❤️

I didn’t get a chance to express my gratitude and love to the community for the past 5 years of soul nourishment.

I rushed off after my last class on Friday to see friends near Bristol and on the journey down I was thinking about what word I would use to describe my time in this space. Nourishment felt really right.

I remember when I arrived in Sheffield just over 5 years ago, I attended my first class with Matt at lunchtime and then shortly after with Lydia Ainscough], and . After that first visit, I said to Tom, “I think I've found my studio!” And it really did become a home for me.

It nourished connections in a new city at a time in my life when I genuinely felt pretty lost and lonely. I was welcomed with open arms and for that I am hugely grateful. I will reflect on this time with real love.

Thank you to all who blessed the space with their presence, so many faces which lit up my own on a daily basis. You know who you are! ❤️

An ending, a beginning..

Yesterday was my final class . I’m not the best at letting go, I’m a real grasper even though I love Autumn just the thought of it makes me cling on to Summer.

But with every ending comes a beginning and I’m excited for a new chapter.

Thank you the lovely group that joined me for Flow and Restore yesterday.. it was so special in so many ways and once again reminded me of why I teach yoga. For me, Unity is connection, it’s conversation, it’s snaffling chocolate before class, it’s honest, it’s sharing our humanness and it’s the warmth of togetherness and that goes far beyond a physical space.
Yoga is so rich and varied and every teacher has a different approach which I really love. After the last five years at Unity I feel really clear about what I want to share and what inspires me and I’m so grateful to the girls at Unity and to those who have come to classes for supporting me to find my way.

‘While something may come to an ending on the surface of time, it’s presence, meaning, and effect continue to be held and integrated into the eternal’

✨ Yin yoga workshop ✨

Join Aimee Barnes] for a peaceful afternoon of Yin yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine 🌿 The afternoon will begin with some discussion about the season of summer as we explore different ways of cultivating balance when we feel overextended and exhausted.
We will then drop into a nourishing Yin yoga practice which will include some breathing practices, acupressure and self massage. Taking some time to pause and reconnect as we indulge in silence and stillness 🍃
This will be my final Yin yoga workshop at before they close their doors at the end of the month, it would be lovely to see you there.
