No face:face group classes this week as it’s half-term.

Online classes as normal.

Thank you to my lovely private clients for flexing your session times this week so I can take some time off with the children.

It’s a warm, sunny start to the week.

Just three hours of teaching today.

Dog and children now being exercised!

I run two Pilates sessions suitable for people with osteoporosis

You have to have a special bone health qualification to teach clients with this diagnosis so please check your teacher is insured to help you.

You can still do a full body workout in the session and then feel great knowing you are helping to stabilise your condition.

The Tuesday 1915 class is great fun.

There’s a lot of chat amongst the hard work and one of our favourite topics is ā€˜rate my plate’ when we talk about what we are eating when we get home.

Last night it evolved to ā€˜rate my bake’ when the lovely Sue brought in cake!!

Life is all about balance after all.

Love it or hate it?

The magic circle/pilates circle definitely divides opinion but I think that’s because it’s so challenging!

Each week, my clients get to do a different set of movements using different small equipment. This makes sure you are constantly challenged, interested and progressing!

It’s all provided.

Spaces available on Monday at 1400 and 1500 in my gentle and chair sessions in central Sherborne with parking right outside!

Stability in motion.

Does that make sense?

Pilates is about being able to stabilise a part of the body and sometimes it involves keeping that thing as still as possible whilst moving it.

Here, I'm talking about keeping the back and bottom still (spine and pelvis) but whilst it's moving up and down off the floor.

Tell me what you think of how I describe that happening. No idea what made me think of the Milkman!

hahaha

A rolldown is a great exercise to work the spine.

We mobilise each vertebrae and use the core to re-build up to a standing position so it's a good all-rounder for the body.

Ideally, we want some flexion (bend) in the small of the back but that can be hard to achieve.

Here I'm offering a tip to my online class to see if it helps them to improve their own rolldown.

In doing this rolldown, I have sacrificed a bit of my own cervical flexion as I was still watching the computer screen to check on how my clients were doing!

Let me know if you find this cue helps you.

In a face:face class, you can use your hands to help a client understand where to lift their body.

Over Zoom, that can be harder to communicate where or what you want them to feel.

Here, I use the band wrapped under the armpit and across the back to give light resistance. This can be used to firstly guide their spine in extension away from the floor but also to provide sometihng to move against to help give extra challenge.

Even online, I can spot every little thing you’re doing wrong (and fix it!)

This morning’s class we were doing Chicken Wings, which has an element of Ribcage Closure.

Even through a screen, I can see tiny details—like when wrists creep higher than elbows with my online participants today.

That’s when I switch angles, show a side view, and use simple analogies so it all clicks so they can make those adjustments.

Tiny tweaks like ā€œhand, elbow, shoulder at the same heightā€ make a huge difference in how it works and feels.

Online doesn’t mean missing out—you get the same personalised guidance you’d get in the studio, straight to your living room.
