💓 Grief Awareness Week 💓

This morning I went for a lovely walk in the sunshine with my friend. At the end she handed me the most beautiful gift - this tree ornament with my dad’s handsome face on

This year will be my first Christmas without my dad, and whilst I’m massively aware of that, this kind act still caught me off guard in the loveliest way. A tiny moment of remembrance, love, and yes… grief

If you know me, you’ll know I talk openly about most things, especially grief. But since losing my dad, I’ve become even more aware of how difficult some people find it to talk about death. And yet, it’s the one experience every single one of us will share.

Grief is not something to hide away. It’s not something to “get over.” It’s love, just in another form. So this week, I’m encouraging all of us to start the conversation, or keep it going if you already do

One of the most important gifts we can give our families is clarity. My family know what I want for my funeral, and I ask those I love about their wishes too. When the time comes, it’s so much easier for those grieving if they know exactly what their person wanted

Times have changed. Funerals no longer have to follow old traditions if they don’t fit. You’re allowed to personalise, to celebrate, to tell the story of a life in a way that feels true. You’re allowed to smile, laugh, cry, and remember with warmth. Yes, we miss them, but we had them. And that is something worth celebrating

💓 Funeral Celebrant Day 💓

It’s Funeral Celebrant Day, and I’m heading to bed on this Friday absolutely exhausted, but full of love and pride for the work I do

Every time I send a ceremony script to a family, I worry a little. I pour so much time and heart into creating a personal service that reflects their loved one and their life in a real, honest way.

When families come back and say I’ve “captured them perfectly”, it confirms that choosing to train as a funeral celebrant at the start of this year was the right decision

To all the families who have trusted me with such an important day in saying goodbye: thank you. It genuinely is an honour to do this job. I truly feel I was born to do it.
I’m also grateful to the funeral directors I work alongside, as together we create a perfectly personal farewell for each person in our care

The first of our FAQ Friday questions to be answered -

What happenes to any metal left behind eg prosthetics or plates?

A very good question.
Firstly when arranging the funeral and completing the paperwork with the funeral director there is a section on the cremation form that asks if you would like to have the metals retained and returned to you or if you would be happy for the metals to be recycled.
Once the cremation has taken place the cremation technician removes any metals that are left following the cremation process ( It's important to note that soft metals like gold and silver can melt into tiny globules and mix with the cremated remains, making them impossible to return separately). If a family has asked to retain the metals these are then placed into a bag and clearly labeled before being returned to the family. If the family are happy for the metals to be recycled these are then placed into special recycling bins that are then collected throughout the year.
The money then raised from the recycling of the metals is shared between the crematoriums to then be donated to local charities. In 2024 we donated £8000 to Severn Hospice and this year we have just donated £5000 to Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith

These milestones hit harder than I realised - so I’m sending love to all of you who are facing big days without your loved ones 😞

Grief is personal, contradictory, unpredictable, and bites us in the bum when we least expect it

But it reminds us of all the love ❤️

To love and to be loved is just amazing. And grief is the price we pay

Dads are pretty special. And I’m so glad I had mine.

Hope you’re enjoying a small glass of red up there pops.

💓 GROOM SELFIES 💓

I love a last minute selfie with the groom and guests, just seconds before the bride enters ♥️

It was an honour to officiate Chloe and Jack’s big day yesterday 👰‍♀️

The service was full of laughter from the start, and there were even a few (happy) tears from parents with a surprise reading from Jack’s sister 🥰

Personal, fun, funny, real, honest, and VERY laid back and chilled ✌️

My kinda wedding! 💒

Let’s celebrate life – every part of it 💃

I always arrive at least half an hour early before a service to pause, prepare, and be fully present for the families I have the honour of supporting. On this morning, I grabbed a little hot chocolate from the lovely Last Drop Coffee Van and it was just what I needed - comforting, calming, and a small act of kindness on a big day. ☕️

Whether you’re visiting to say goodbye, visiting someone special, or just needing a moment to breathe, it’s beautiful to now have this little van offering warm drinks and warm smiles right outside the crematorium.

Two small businesses, side by side, trying to bring a little care and comfort to people on some of life’s hardest days.
And with yesterday being , it feels like a gentle reminder to pause, accept kindness, and look after your heart.

So next time you’re there, don’t forget to grab a warm drink and tasty treat to bring you a little bit of comfort on a very hard day. You deserve it!

💓 Me and my girls 💓

Today I sat with a family who lost their mum suddenly. Four siblings, all around my age, heartbroken but full of love as they remembered her. It’s clear she was a special lady who brought joy to everyone she met.

It was a powerful reminder: life is short, and none of us are promised tomorrow. We spend so much time working, cleaning, stressing, worrying, overthinking…

But in the end, it’s the memories, the laughter, the love that will be remembered.

I want my girls to look back on a mum who was present, joyful, and loving. Not just busy or tired. (Or shouting 😬 😵‍💫)

Being a celebrant is such a privilege helping families through the hardest times, and celebrating lives that were deeply loved. And I promise to always devote time to each of my services to honour these special people. 🙏

So this Sunday, take a breath, let yourself off the hook, be kind to yourself and soak in the good stuff.
Life is precious. And we only get one shot at it. So love hard and don’t sweat the small stuff ♥️
