Irish Wedding and Funeral Singer London Hello there! I am a classically trained singer from Ireland. I regularly tour the UK and internationally as a freelance vocalist. Something more Irish.

www.irishweddingfuneralsingerlondon.com I grew up singing in many choirs all over Dublin, including being one of the first girls chosen to sing in the previously all male choir of Christchurch Cathedral. I studied singing under Dr Veronica Dunne in The Leinster School of Music and went on to sing solo with the RTE Concert Orchestra in The National Concert Hall, in "Agnus of God" in The Crypt in Dublin Castle and recently in Cadogan Hall, London with the Mozart Symphony Orchestra to name a few occasions. My vocal training has ensured I can sing most genres of music, but I love to sing Irish folk and religious/spiritual music. I understand that at sensitive occasions such as funerals, people don't always want an operatic voice, they often want something that sounds more angelic, innocent and pure. This is how I love to sing. I was notably chosen to be the lead singer in Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance and toured the USA and Canada with the show. Currently, I live in Sidcup and serve many members of the Irish Community in London and the home counties at funeral and wedding masses. I am very familiar with Catholic hymns and masses and am often asked to sing modern songs, Irish folk and Gaelic songs. I am proud to say I am often asked to sing at funeral masses for the Irish Travelling community in England too. I am happy to learn songs that are special to you with notice. I can guide you through the funeral process and help you to choose songs if you need help. Ingrid Magee xx

I had a request on my YouTube page to make a video singing this song without an organ accompaniment. So here it is. I have been singing this song in Church since I was very young and I have sung it at 100s of funerals and weddings. I always feel good when I sing this song I know it is a special Psalm. Hope you like it x

This is a video from many moons ago when I toured North America as the lead singer in Michael Flatleys Lord of the Dance. I am so grateful to have been part of such a brilliant show. It really was a magical experience. And I am so grateful I asked the sound engineer to take a video to look at years later and show my children!

One month before turning 95, Patricia Routledge wrote this, she died today aged 96.

“I’ll be turning 95 this coming Monday. When I was younger, I often worried I wasn’t good enough—that I’d never be cast again, that I’d disappoint my mother. But these days begin in peace and end in gratitude.”

In my forties, my life finally began to make sense. Before that, I’d performed steadily—provincial stages, radio plays, West End productions—but felt somewhat lost. I was searching for something within myself, a home I hadn’t yet found.

At 50, I took a television role that many of you would later know me by—Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances. I thought it would just be a minor role, a brief moment. I never expected it to become beloved across the globe. That character taught me to embrace my quirks and quietly healed something deep within me.

At 60, I started learning Italian—not for my career, but simply so I could sing opera in its native tongue. I learned the gentle art of living alone without loneliness, reading poetry aloud each night—not to perfect diction, but to soothe my spirit.

At 70, I returned to Shakespearean theatre, a place I once thought I’d aged out of. This time, there was nothing to prove. I stepped onto those legendary boards with calmness. The audience felt that serenity. I had stopped performing; I was simply being.

At 80, I discovered watercolor painting. I painted flowers from my garden, nostalgic hats from my youth, and faces glimpsed on the London Underground—each painting was a silent memory made tangible.

Now, at 95, I write letters by hand. I’m learning the simple joy of baking rye bread. I still breathe deeply each morning. Laughter remains precious, though I no longer feel the need to make others laugh. Quietness is sweeter than ever.

I’m writing this today to share something simple and true:

Growing older isn’t a final act—it can be life’s most exquisite chapter if you allow yourself to bloom once more.

Let the years ahead be your treasure years.
You don’t have to be perfect, famous, or adored.
You only need to be present—fully—for the life that’s yours.

With warmth and gentle love,
— Patricia Routledge

"You Raise Me Up" was co-written by Rolf Løvland, who composed the music, and Brendan Graham, who wrote the lyrics. It was hugely popular in Ireland when Westlife recorded it.

I’ve been reading quotes from Saint Augustine and wow they are really beautiful. Reminds me of another beautiful spiritual writer Rumi who was from Afghanistan. I really like this one.

Song of Farewell

Song of Farewell if a beautiful hymn written by Ernest Sands. I usually sing this song at a very special part of a Funeral Mass -The "Final Commendation," or "Blessing of the coffin". This is a symbolic act of praying for the deceased and entrusting their soul to God. It often involves sprinkling the coffin with holy water, incensing it with incense, and saying prayers for the deceased. This ritual signifies the deceased's baptism, the hope of resurrection, and the prayers ascending to heaven for their well-being.
I think you will agree the words are very beautiful as is the melody which is just so perfect for that special moment in the Mass.
