The Sidcup Partners BID

The Sidcup Partners BID The BID is funded by a small ‘levy’ on businesses within the area, based on the rateable value of their property.

The Sidcup Partners BID (Business Improvement District) is a business-led and business funded body formed to support the community and economic growth in Sidcup. In November 2016, the businesses in Sidcup voted in favour of creating a Business Improvement District (BID) and paying an annual contribution to help fund additional projects, services and events that would improve the local environment for the benefit of the community, businesses, employees and visitors alike. This raises in the region of £167,000 each year during the five-year term, so approximately £835,000 in total. This money will be used to promote Sidcup, to enhance the experience for visitors, to enable businesses to work together and to provide services to reduce business overheads. BID services are additional to those provided by the Council, Police and other providers. The Sidcup BID includes approximately 400 levy payers including well-known brands and organisations in the retail, leisure, hospitality and public sectors. We are an independent, non-profit company limited by guarantee. All the projects and services we deliver are additional to – not in place of – those already provided by the London Borough of Bexley. Our key aim is to raise the profile of Sidcup as a safe, clean, attractive and well-regarded destination for businesses, residents and visitors alike.

Unfortunately, the directional drill failed due to ground conditions. This now means that Thames Water need to open cut to lay the 2 new mains. They have commenced on site with extra teams and extended hours. They were on site till 23:00 hours the last few nights and have laid the 1st main.

There is still a lot more to do on site, and the mains still need testing and sampling, but they still hope to have the works completed on time.

There is concrete present and will need time to cure. I will keep you updated as works progress.

Easter is just around the corner, and Sidcup is gearing up for a weekend packed with family fun and festive surprises.

On Saturday 28th March, Elm Parade will be transformed for our Giant Easter Ball, running from 10am to 3pm. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive Golden Egg—find it and you could be taking home some brilliant prizes.

The celebrations continue on Saturday 4th April, when the High Street hosts an exciting Easter Duck Hunt, with plenty of prizes waiting to be won. Over on Station Road, the adventure carries on with a cheerful Easter Egg Hunt, offering even more chances to scoop up goodies.

And rumour has it we may even receive a special visit from Peter Rabbit himself. He’s known to be rather fond of chocolate, so don’t be surprised if he arrives with treats to share.

Bring the family, join the fun, and make this Easter one to remember. Sidcup is ready to celebrate in style.

HI Sue

I know its disruptive but unfortunately there is not an easier way to undertake the works due to road widths and safe working. I have attached an update that I ham happy for you to share with residents and on social media that I have provided to councillors.

Also, any loss of earnings for businesses can be discussed with Thames Water and claims made through the website, https://www.thameswater.co.uk/wholesale/business-loss-of-profits-policy-statement.

Just an update on Chislehurst Road and the works in progress for Thames Water mains replacement.

Thames Water are replacing 2 mains on Chislehurst Road that has burst 18 times in the last 5 years

Chislehurst Road remains closed northbound from the roundabout to the school entrance. A road closure was agreed with Thames Water as there is not enough minimum width for HGVs as per the “Red Book” (safety at Street works a code of practice) to maintain a running lane.

Thames Water have been on site including weekends to expedite the works; they will be directional drilling the new main which commenced today. This means there will be less excavational works and may appear people are standing about. I can assure you this is not the case. There will be an operative following the drill whilst others are in the drill rig. Once the pipe is in the ground this will need to be tested for 10 days and services connected to the new main, 6 in total. They anticipate a further 2 weeks on site under a road closure, then they will commence the next phase under traffic lights.

I have spoken to TFL who operate the static traffic lights, and they are monitoring the traffic on the A20 Crittall’s roundabout, five ways and Sidcup High Street to ensure traffic flows the best it can.

I know this is disruptive works, but Thames Water are investing and upgrading their network to prevent future bursts and unplanned disruption. They have made good progress since starting works in January in Frognal Avenue and the road crossing on the southbound carriageway on Chislehurst Road.

The street works inspectors visit site daily to check on the progress and review any traffic management changes that can be made in line with the legislation, and Thames Water provide w Just an update on Chislehurst Road and the works in progress for Thames Water mains replacement.

High Street Update – Thames Water Works

We contacted Thames Water this morning and were able to get immediate answers to a few of our questions. They will be responding later today or tomorrow with the remaining information.

Here is the current update:

The first stage of works is expected to finish in around two weeks (we are awaiting formal confirmation of the exact date).
Once this stage is complete, the road will be reopened.
As Thames Water move further down, temporary traffic lights will be put in place, which should make access into the High Street much easier.

We have also requested the following on behalf of businesses and residents:

Whether work can be carried out over the weekend
Improved signage directing people to the High Street
Clearer and more frequent bus information

We will share further updates as soon as Thames Water provide the remaining details. Transparency and communication remain absolutely essential, and we will continue to push for both.

We wanted to let everyone know that we have formally written to the council regarding the ongoing works in Sidcup, which are having a significant impact on our businesses and the wider community. The area is now virtually at a standstill, and the situation is becoming increasingly difficult for everyone affected.

We will keep you updated as soon as we recieve a response 💜

This is to give you a heads up of impending work to re build a brick wall at the pedestrian ramp entrance to Morrisons Car park, in Nelson Road
The work is likely to take place in the second week of March and I will notify you again nearer the time with dates once permits have been granted.

To carry work out safely, it will require closing this Pedestrian access ramp for up to 5 days and diverting pedestrians via the entrance in Nesbitt Place. Traffic in Nelson Road will be unaffected, only pedestrians using the ramp will be diverted.

Morrisons have agreed to their ramp being closed, which we have been talking to them about for some months and previously had to postpone it due to other works in the area.
I appologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

Just received from the council .

Welcoming the Start of Lent & Celebrating Chinese New Year 🧧🐉

Two meaningful traditions meet: the beginning of Lent and the celebration of Chinese New Year.

Lent invites reflection, renewal, and a return to what matters most. It’s a season of intention — whether through fasting, prayer, acts of kindness, or simply creating space for stillness and gratitude.

At the same time, Chinese New Year bursts forth with colour, joy, and hope. This year’s celebrations bring wishes of prosperity, good health, and fresh beginnings for all. Families gather, lanterns glow, and communities welcome a new chapter with optimism.

Both traditions, though different in expression, share a beautiful theme: new beginnings. A chance to reset, refocus, and step forward with purpose.

Wishing everyone observing Lent a meaningful journey ahead, and to all celebrating Chinese New Year — may the year bring peace, joy, and abundance.
