Janet Dowling- Life Story Coach

Janet Dowling- Life Story Coach Enabling People at the Crossroads of their Life to Discover what they want their Story to be! I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Life Story Coach is about looking at your personal story, and how you can retell it so that you know what you want to have happen, and make it happen. I use all my skills of storytelling and metaphor to facilitate you to make your own decisions when you stand at the crossroads of life, uncertain what to do! I use a form of questioning called Clean Language, which allows you to create your own images and metaphors, and to explore your own issues. The Clean bit is that the facilitator works entirely to your responses and offers no interpretations. The only meanings that matter are what you come to know about your own stuff! I work with storytelling and metaphor to facilitate people who are stressed or unhappy, to find a different way to understand their life story and become more confident to transform their lives. If you are at a crossroads, and not sure what to do, either because you have too many options, or no options at all, I don't tell you what to do. Instead I help you explore the stories behind your journey to the crossroads, and then facilitate you to look to the future and make your own decisions and action plans. Using storytelling and metaphor (and a whole load of related skills) enables you to make new discoveries and insights about the things you thought you knew about yourself and your relationships, and become better informed to make your own decisions. I have worked with creative artists like storytellers and writers who are interested in developing their personal approach to their art form, but find themselves blocked for one reason or another. Or who want to work on the development of characters and story line to make their storytelling and writing more authentic. I have worked with professionals in health and social care, the voluntary and private sector, and local businesses who feel they need support to look at what they are doing, either to improve their performance, reflect on what they have done, or to help them move on to the next stage in their career or business. And I have worked with individuals and couples who want to explore personal issues in relationships, bereavements and personal development. I do have a life where I tell stories and another where I write stories. But when I am working as a life story coach, I am interested in your story and what you want to have happen! If you are interested in working with me, you can get in touch thru messenger on Facebook, and we can connect by phone or by Skype to have a free initial consultation. For any future work you could either travel to Devon for a face to face meeting, or we could work together by phone or Skype!

This is the kind of work you will experience working with me.

This is the kind of work you will experience working with me.

We’ve all created our own personal histories, marked by highs and lows, that we share with the world — and we can shape them to live with more meaning and purpose.

I have two opening for clients who want life Story Coaching for themselves or creative reflection/ supervision for their work. Using storytelling and metaphor with clean language opens more opportunities and possibilities, and draws on your own values and beliefs, not mine. Feel free to contact me to discuss. I now work on Skype as well as face ti face.

Ive had a few queries recently about my fellowship paper for the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust on Storytelling for the dying and the bereaved. It was 11 years ago - time has flown so quickly. Ive done many workshops on how to use storytelling in the care of the bereaved, as well as my own work as a bereavement counsellor. But there is always more to offer and my interest is in working more with the dying to tell their own stories.

I'm currently running some ILM workshops for leadership using clean language, storytelling and metaphor. Its really interesting to see how quickly people can grasp the concepts and make a difference to their learning, time management, organisation and memory skills!

The Healing Story Alliance 2016 online journal is now posted on our
website!

This issue features seventeen authors and artists from the United
Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the United States.
Because we publish online, the many traditional and personal stories,
insightful articles and poetry are all illuminated with color
illustrations.

Like our teleconferences, we offer these journals for free, to spread
the word of our work in applied storytelling.
We appreciate all donations toward our efforts.

The 2016 journal is posted at:

I have successfully launched two more people who have uncovered and embraced their options at the crossroads, and are now going onto new exciting things. That means I have two slots available for more coaching. Fell free to message me and we can work through Skype, or face to face if you are in Devon.

A TEDx talk by Dominic Kelly on Lies, truth and trickster. It contains an excellent illustration of how we trick ourselves into believing a story about ourselves, that then inhibits us, and how finding another story can release us. We can work together, to identify the story that holds you back, and then find the story that takes you forward!

Storytelling our way into the Future Dominic is a contemporary performance storyteller whose dynamic, engaging style has captivated audiences in theatres, fe...

On Monday 26th October I'm running this workshop with Michael Williams at the Scottish International Storytelling Festival in Edinburgh. Some of the techniques we will be discussing are the same as I use as a Life Story Coach.

The Ties that Bind: Storytelling
as a
pathway to peace.
Scottish Storytelling Centre
Training & Development
Monday 26th October 2015
2pm (2hrs 30) | £15 (£12) | Adults

People in conflict hold their ground
because they do not feel heard.
Sharing personal stories from areas
of conflict invites participants
into a space where they can be
heard and are able to hear the
other side of the story. From that
space, it is possible to move to a
shared place of understanding and
possible resolution. This workshop
invites you to explore how
storytelling can support different
sides of a conflict to share their
personal stories. The workshop
leaders have put this process into
practice in communities in Israel
and Palestine. Led by Michael
Williams and Janet Dowling.

I'm finishing my life story coach practice in Epsom, and from 1st October I will be based in Sidmouth, Devon full time. However, once I have established a stable WiFi connection in Sidmouth, I will be able to work with people via Skype, and by phone as well as face to face. My trial sessions on Skype have worked out quite well and at least one of my current face to face clients intends to continue by Skype - so here is to the future. Feel free to contact me to discuss sessions. My interest is in supporting people, so my fees are reasonable. And what would you like to have happen?
