We’re proud to support the new initiative launched by The University of Huddersfield in collaboration with Kirklees College, aimed at connecting young people and older adults through technology.

The programme, “Connecting the Generations”, brings our students together with community members to exchange skills and understanding—students offering tech support and companionship, and adults sharing lifelong wisdom. The result? Reduced isolation, improved digital confidence, meaningful volunteering opportunities, and real‑world impact.
“It will be rewarding to see our students helping older people gain confidence with technology.” - Rebecca Swallow, Head of Student Experience at Kirklees College
At Kirklees College, we believe in education that extends beyond the classroom. Through partnerships like this, we empower our students, strengthen our communities, and foster a culture of mutual support and growth.
The project’s first pilot session takes place at Kirklees College from 10.00am-12.00pm on Thursday 27 November, where volunteers will support older residents with everyday digital tasks such as sending text messages and making video calls to adjusting smartphone settings, and spotting online scams. Anyone with a digital query can show up for some advice and support over tea and coffee.
