A lovely morning spent on our trips to South Molton Pannier Market today made even more special as one of our residents’ brothers joined us! 🛍️💐

Today we gathered together for our Remembrance Service, led by Rev. Andy Jarvis.
He read “Dulce et Decorum Est” by Wilfred Owen, the title referring to the old saying that it is noble to die for one’s country.Wifred Owen was himself a soilder, who died one week before amistice.

We also shared in a moving sermon and sang hymns including “How Great Thou Art” and “Abide With Me”.
It was a deeply poignant time of reflection and gratitude for all who have served and sacrificed. ❤️🌹

Dulce et Decorum Est
by Wilfred Owen

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs,
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots,
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! – An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime …
Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

We couldn’t help but get into the festive spirit… though some are asking, is it too early for Christmas? 😉🎁

Either way, there were lots of smiles, laughter, and a few Christmas wishes already being made! ❤️

Midweek Roast! 🍽️

What better way to lift spirits midweek than with a traditional roast beef dinner? Our residents are tucking into tender slices of beef, crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and fresh seasonal veg, all topped off with rich homemade gravy.

Plenty of smiles, clean plates, and happy hearts all around ❤️
Here’s to good food and even better company!

One of our lovely carers took it upon herself to help our resident Carol get back into her knitting today 🧶💗
Carol is absolutely thrilled and her smile says it all! 😊
It’s the little things that make the biggest difference.
