It's great to see that councils will receive Β£68m to build 5,200 homes on disused brownfield sites across England.
There are already enough shovel-ready brownfield sites in England alone for 1.2 million new homes, and this funding shows promise that the government is starting to deliver on its brownfield first commitment.
More investment will also be needed to make the government's affordable homes targets a reality.
We'd like to see:
ποΈ A requirement that a significant proportion of new homes are genuinely affordable homes and available for social rent.
π Ambitious targets for affordable and social rented homes, which the current market has failed to deliver.
