Crikey, where did that week go!!!

We've been celebrating Firework night not only with our Firework evening last night but also drawing some fireworks. We have some very artistic residents as you can see.

Our lovely Rustyn was in yesterday to entertain us with his guitar and songs from the past. Rustyn always gets us up dancing, singing and tapping our feet.

We decorated a remembrance tree with poppies and hearts to remember those we have lost in war and within our Colbury family.

I think you'll agree, it looks amazing.

We will be honouring those who have served in wars and conflicts with a 2 minute silence on Tuesday.

Have a lovely weekend.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our annual firework display tonight.
It was wonderful to see so many family and friends coming along to support us and enjoy tasty burgers and hot dogs, delicious hot chocolate and good company.
We all enjoyed seeing the fireworks at the bottom of the garden, lighting up the sky.
I've heard comments such as " what a lovely evening" and "it's made mum's day having all the staff families here"
It goes to show what a close knit family we are here at Colbury.

I cant finish this post before thanking all the staff for their hard work: we really are are fantastic team.

Here are next week's plans. As always they are subject to change at short notice and all times are approximate.

We have another fun packed week here at Colbury, to start the week off we had the lovely Eddie Cole in to entertain us with his singing and his jokes. Eddie always puts a smile on our faces when he visits.

As you can see, there were lots of happy faces.

Please don't forget to sign up for our Firework Party on Friday, the sign up sheet is in reception so we know how many people to expect.

On Monday we had the lovely Anteek in to entertain us, we danced, clapped and sung along to songs we remembered from our teens!!

After lunch on Monday we had the lovely Laura from 'Rise' she came in to keep us active with Hockey moves, Tennis moves and Golf moves, there were some very competitive Residents, they were all winners and enjoyed holding the 'Winners' cup!!!

This morning we made some Spooky ghosts, they looked very scary and we named them all, I think Martin's ghost had the best name of 'Doris', Pat looked at her Ghost and immediately thought he looked like a Reggie.

After lunch we will be trying 'laughing yoga'!!!!

Our exercises went well this morning, we did 30 minutes of seated boxing followed by a nice cuppa!!

Pumpkin Carving was very popular, we all enjoyed scooping out the middle of the pumpkin and drawing a scary face ready to be cut out, a battery powered tealight was then put inside the pumpkin
Staff enjoyed joining in too. Please feel free to come in and see our scary pumpkins in Reception.

This afternoon we tried out some Karaoke, Residents chose which song they wanted to sing and then the microphone was passed around, our lovely Pat enjoyed singing along to 'Summer Song' by Frank Sinatra.

Rooney requested a comedy afternoon, he chose 'Mr Bean' which had several of the Residents in fits of laughter!

Good Morning, we've had a fantastic treat today, the lovely ladies from Creature Teachers came in to show us some of their Pets, we saw and stroked a stunning Owl, a cheeky Ferret, a slippery Snake, a Scaly Lizard and the fluffiest Angora Rabbit we've ever seen.

Please see the photos attached, I'm sure you'll all agree we have had a lovely morning, even the Staff got involved!

Apologies for this post being very late but I have been working at our sister home in the New Forest.

Way back at the end of September we had our final trip of this year on Solent Dolphin's Alison Macgregor boat from Hythe Marina.

We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny day but we could feel in the wind that autumn had arrived.

As usual we collected fresh fish and chips from Holbury Fish Bar - they are getting to know us in there - and we ate them from the paper on the benches overlooking Southampton Water in Hythe Marina. Delicious. I took forks but most of us chose to use fingers!

We were welcomed on board the Alison Macgregor by our friendly crew who soon had us all settled. It was an exceptionally high tide as it was just after the " Blood Moon" and the lock gates were open for us to manoeuvre straight through.

For the first time on our outings we were lucky enough to be able to come right up Southampton Water, past the container docks, where we saw the cranes loading onto the ships, up the River Test, past Goatee Beach up to Eling, almost to the Anchor Pub. Shame we couldn't stop for a quick pint!

It got quite chilly on board so we made sure everyone was kept warm and cosy with blankets, hot drinks and biscuits.

The boat trips will resume next year and we will try and make sure that those who would like a trip get the opportunity. It's always a wonderful day.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who keep this boat running.
