The White Lily Centre

The White Lily Centre A gathering place for bereavement support, comfort and education. These include talks to local businesses and community groups, assisting at events etc.

The aim of The White Lily Centre is to provide free bereavement support to the people of Southampton and surrounding areas in the form of individual bereavement counselling, groups, education and social activities. We endeavour to work seamlessly with other agencies and organisations to enhance the much needed local provision for those who have experienced the death of someone close to them. The White Lily Centre is the culmination of a long-held dream of our founder and sponsor, Jonathan Terry. More than 20 years running his business as a funeral director had made him acutely aware of the need for affordable bereavement support in the Southampton area. When, finally, the opportunity arose to purchase a suitable property, Jonathan grabbed it and The White Lily Centre became a reality! The centre has two spacious counselling rooms, a large comfortable lounge and a meeting / café area, allowing the flexibility to provide one to one counselling and groups of various sizes as well as casual “drop in” sessions. It also acts as a base for organising a busy programme of social events and outings, as well as our community outreach activities. The rooms are also available for use by other, specialist bereavement support organisations by arrangement. Here at The White Lily Centre we have a small core team of staff, supported by an army of dedicated trainees, helpers and volunteers. We are truly grateful to our kind and compassionate supporters, without whom we would not be able to provide the services we do.

On Tuesday 9th September we had the privilege to host Dr Bill Webster and his Wife Johanna. Dr Bill attended our coffee morning and gave a talk about his grief journey programme that has helped many people here in the UK and in Canada. In the Evening he gave a talk to professionals on the Importance of Ritual and supporting families who maybe experiencing unresolved grief many months after a direct cremation where no service or ritual has taken place.
We believe Grief needs a moment, a ritual, a space to begin healing. A simple direct cremation, without support, can leave families with silence instead of comfort. With a funeral director–led direct cremation, your loved ones are cared for with compassion and dignity." We also recommend before choosing a direct cremation this is discussed with the family to see how they will feel at the time of loss.
We also thank Wessex Vale Crematorium for hosting the evening and Preta for the Refreshments.

Dedication of our Chapel of Rest - We were proud to mark a meaningful milestone with the dedication of our new chapel of Rest at 10 College Place Southampton, held within the 25th anniversary year of Jonathan Terry Independent Funeral Directors

The event was an opportunity to reflect on both the completion of the chapel and the growth and service of Jonathan Terry over the past quarter-century. We were pleased to welcome so many friends, colleagues, and members of the community who joined us to mark the occasion.

We extend our sincere thanks to Canon Norman Boakes, Fr Russ Bullock, Emma Reed, representatives from the Southampton Sikh community, The Lord Mayor of Southampton and Toni Nunn from singers for funerals for taking part in the service and everyone who attended and supported us. Your presence and continued encouragement mean a great deal.

As we look ahead, the new chapel will serve as a space for quiet reflection and remembrance.

Thank you for being part of this special moment.

Jonathan Terry

Dedication Ceremony of New Chapel of Rest at 10 College Place

We are pleased to announce the official dedication of our Chapel of Rest at 10 College Place, taking place on Tuesday, 1st July at 12.00 noon.

We are honoured to welcome the Lord Mayor of Southampton, alongside local members of the clergy and representatives from the Southampton Sikh community, who will join us in marking this significant occasion. Their presence reflects the unity and diversity of our community, and the shared importance of providing a respectful, peaceful space for families in their time of loss.

The Chapel of Rest is a place for quiet reflection, allowing families to spend time with their loved ones in dignity and peace. We believe this dedicated space is an essential part of the grieving process, offering comfort and a sense of closeness during a difficult time.

Following the ceremony, we warmly invite all who wish to visit the premises and view the Chapel to join us. This is an opportunity to learn more about the space, meet our team, and ask any questions in a supportive environment.

Unlike other providers, our direct cremation services can be built around your wishes.

Our standard direct cremation service includes:

- Our full professional services
- Collection of the deceased
- Transportation to the crematorium
- The cremation itself
- Returning the ashes to the family

But a direct cremation does not mean you cannot say goodbye to your loved one.

Additional services, such as following the hearse to the crematorium or arranging a viewing or vigil, are also available.

To learn more, or enquire, you can call our team 24/7 on 023 8001 4612.

Dear Friends,
As the Christmas season unfolds, we at Jonathan Terry Funeral Directors want to extend our heartfelt thoughts to you and your family. This time of year can be especially poignant for those who have experienced loss, and we hold you close in our hearts.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us for the remembrance services at St. Patrick's Church. Your presence brought warmth and comfort as we came together to honour and remember our loved ones.
The stars placed on the tree shine brightly, a symbol of the enduring love and cherished memories we carry with us. They remind us that while our loved ones may no longer be with us in person, their light continues to guide and inspire us.
We wish you a peaceful Christmas filled with moments of reflection, solace, and love. May the season bring you comfort, and may the coming year be kind to you.
With warm regards,
Jonathan Terry
