Within Chinese medicine there are 12 meridians that are related to the Five Elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. However, there are also a number of Extraordinary Vessels or meridians of which the two most important are the Governing Vessel and Conception Vessel. As we move into autumn NOW is the time to prepare for winter. In Chinese Medicine the energy movement is inwards as we consolidate and start to conserve our energy. We can do this with seasonal foods such as soups, stews and casseroles as well as slowing down our routines if possible. The Lungs are related to this season, so breathing exercises are especially important at this time of the year and can also have a natural calming effect. Failure to nourish and prepare ourselves now is often why we get ill in winter.

Suffer from a sore Achilles tendon, tight calves, tight hamstrings or lower back pain? Roll your feet. The soles of our feet are often incredibly restricted and affect the whole of our posterior chain right up to our neck. Use a ball or rolling pin on a carpeted area and do it slowly. It will hurt at first but the benefits are well worth it.

Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, IBS and chronic fatigue disproportionately affect women at around 70%.
