Wendy’s Wellness Program A common sense nutrition and health program for weight loss that is both achievable and sustainable

27/03/2025

It’s been a year since I started weight training. I decided to show up for myself 4 times a week, to get strong and healthy…..and I did. Even when I didn’t feel good or had a migraine, I still pushed through.

What have I gained? Confidence, strength, mental clarity, energy, willpower, determination and a toned body.

I’ve ditched the cardio and the running, that no longer works for my body. As we age, we need different things and lifting has changed everything for me.

Give it a try!

Health isn’t just about what we’re eating; it’s also about what we’re putting on the outside of your bodies and what impact that is having.

One thing I am very mindful of being perimenopausal is the amount of hormone disruptors that are in cleaning products, personal and household

I’ve made a change this week to non toxic washing liquid and fabric conditioner, washing up liquid and surface cleaning products

I’ve just ordered a Water2 under sink water filter as I don’t like the ones that are sitting around in a plastic jug

A couple of weeks ago I changed my personal care products to non toxic, I already use a natural deodorant

All these toxic things accumulate. This week I’ll be looking into exactly what those effects are having on us

Breakfast idea and my breakfast this morning

2 scrambled eggs, mushrooms and pastrami

Yes, I guess you could call pastrami a processed food but it’s a whole lot better than your standard diabetes starter kit breakfast of fruit juice, low fat yoghurt with fruit and a slice of toast…sounds healthy but it’s all sugar, which will send your glucose levels through the roof, insulin goes up and there I’ll be no fat burning for quite a while

So this is 53.

I’m not normally one to post full body pics, but I’ll be honest….I’m bloody proud of myself and if this inspires someone to take charge of their life and become stronger and healthier then that’s mission accomplished for me.

Just over a year ago I quit alcohol, cleaned up my diet and started weight training.

Was it hard? Only for the first couple of weeks, but the benefits start quickly and that has a snowball effect.

Mindset is everything!
Regular exercise is looking after future me, making sure I can have an active lifestyle when I retire.
Eating healthy isn’t a bore, I’ve made a decision not to poison my body with refined, processed food that is scientifically proven to make us sick

I’m no longer on HRT
I don’t have any health issues
I don’t get food cravings
My joints don’t ache
I eat well and enjoy it
I have stupid amounts of energy
I’m strong and it feels great
I don’t feel as though I am missing out on anything

Happy to help if anyone wants to make a positive change to their health and wellbeing

Check out these global statistics for obesity in both men and women.

I find it so interesting that the sugar consumption hasn’t really changed and yet obesity has skyrocketed along with the consumption of veg oils!

I won’t bore you sh*tless with any more graphs 😂

I don’t know about you, but I’m never intentionally eating a seed/vegetable oil again.

Just a heads up…it’s even in baby milk formula 😢

This is getting scarier by the second 😳

💪🏻Motivation💪🏻

The driving force that makes us commit to something and see it through.

What does that look like for me?

Everything changed for me when I started to look at health and nutrition in a different way. Rather than concentrating on looks and weight loss, I shifted my perspective to looking after my future self, being healthy and strong into my old age.

I’m not financially rich and I very much doubt that I will be rolling in money when I retire. But that’s ok, I take pleasure in the simple things in life; I love to be out in nature, walk and ride horses, I love to create art and I love to spend time with my family. I’m keeping myself fit and healthy so that I can do all of these things for many years to come.

I don’t want to be a burden on anyone as I get older and I don’t want to be a burden on the NHS. There are so many people now using mobility scooters, having trouble getting around and just doing day to day tasks is exhausting…..not the life for me!

The truth is, it doesn’t take much to get started and the benefits come quickly and are sustainable.

What motivates you to get healthy and strong?

Looking at the diets of hunter - gather populations, they differ dramatically from one another. The Massai mostly blood, milk and meat, the Inuits also almost entirely carnivore, whereas the Papua New Guineans of Tukisenta are mostly vegetarian.

What do they all have in common? Non of them consume refined sugars, refined flours or seed oils.

What else do they have in common? Very rare or a complete absence of chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia, macular degeneration.

Can’t be a coincidence can it? Now
I’m not suggesting we all go and consume blood, milk and meat, but what we can do is focus on whole foods, ditch the refined rubbish and the seed oils and enjoy much better health

So we’ve been led to believe that all these wonderful seed and vegetable oils (high in linoleic acid) lower cholesterol, which is good for our hearts.

Utter bo****ks!!

People with higher LDL from consuming saturated and monounsaturated fats with lower amounts of polyunsaturated fats live longer…fact!

Here’s the science:

LDL cholesterol only becomes a problem when it’s not in its natural state.

Chemically treated and oxidised LDL has become a primary driver of coronary heart disease.

Macrophages take up damaged LDL, they become ‘foam cells’ which leads to the development of atherosclerotic plaques and then heart disease.

What causes LDL to oxidise? Linoleic acid! It’s the initial component to undergo oxidation.

Saturated fats protect LDL from oxidation, they protect us from heart disease.

Food for thought right there!

Look at these UK figures 😳

Even though sugar consumption went down, obesity and diabetes are rising sharply….along with the rise in consumption of seed oils.

%LA is the amount if omega 6 linoleic acid, rising amounts on our fat tissue is not a good thing at all.

It’s there in black and white! Seed oils need to go, they are literally poisoning us

Very interesting 🤔 how many of us have had low vitamin D show up in our blood tests? I know I have.

Low vitamin D levels can affect your sleep, cause anxiety and irritability, weight gain, muscle and bone pain.

Deficiency in vitamin A can lead to thinning, brittle hair and dry skin amongst other things.

Bruising easily and having weak bones can be due to a K2 deficiency

Is it just me or do these symptoms seem to mirror menopause symptoms?

Maybe something as simple as cutting out seed oils from our diets could have a significant impact on menopausal women?

It’s has for me, I came off HRT a couple of months ago and have cut out seed oils from my diet for about 4 weeks now. Apart from a couple of hot flushes here and there….i’m totally fine, in fact I feel bloody fantastic.

Try it and see for yourself

A little light reading for the weekend 😊

I’ve been doing a real deep dive into the effects of seed oils on the body and brain. It’s truly fascinating and incredibly scary. I no longer eat them and I’ll be getting into why over the next week

What is yoga nidra?

Yoga is the union of the self and nidra means sleep. It’s a relaxation technique that is done lying down with the eyes closed. It’s also known as non sleep deep rest.

20 minutes of yoga nidra is the equivalent to about 3 hours sleep. It’s a step by step guided process, using body and breath awareness. The brain waves go from beta, to alpha, to theta and sometimes to delta which is a state of deep rest.

In this hypnogogic state, we set an intention (a sankalpa), this can be anything that is relevant to you; positive suggestions for changing habits, pain relief, negative thoughts or negative emotions. I’m having trouble getting into deep sleep, so my sankalpa at the moment is “it is safe for me to sleep deeply”.

During yoga nidra it is easy to access the subconscious mind, to plant seeds with our sankalpas for positive changes in our lives. It is very effective for psychological and psychosomatic issues when practices regularly.

If you decide to try it, I would love to hear about it and how you felt after.

Oh the wonders of yoga nidra!

I’ve been doing this consistently for a few days. 20 minutes is equivalent to 3 hours sleep. It’s a total nervous system reset.

Give it a try….
I’ll go into more details about the benefits tomorrow
