The Herbert Protocol - helping to keep vulnerable people safe.
Caring for vulnerable people, including those with dementia or Alzheimer's can be challenging, this we're raising awareness of the Herbert Protocol designed to help those living with dementia or Alzheimer's in the event they go missing.
What is the Herbert Protocol?
The Herbert Protocol is a scheme designed to assist in locating individuals with dementia who may go missing, by providing essential information to emergency services; the form which carers, family or friends of a vulnerable person, or the person themselves can fill in, contains a list of vital information to help the police or other emergency services if the person goes missing, including:
-medication required
-mobile numbers
-places previously located
-a recent photograph
Having it ready can help reduces stress and allows police to start a search quickly. The form is only needed if the person goes missing and will be returned once they’re found.
