Scrumpy damaged the nerves supplying bladder and colon 6-7 years ago through a tail pull and fracture injury and the tail had to be amputated. She had acupuncture to support nerve healing then and we started again because Scrumpy had real trouble with constipation of late. She is on drugs to help with gut motility, Lactulose and attempts are made to increase water intake and fibre in the diet in conjunction with acupuncture to normalize gut function. There is the possibility however that the nerves have been damaged irreversibly due to chronic constipation.
Scrumpy is not a lap cat and has to be gently restrained as she would like to run off when she feels like it..not a good idea with needles inserted!

Having acupuncture in their own home environment aids in allowing the dog patient to relax into the treatment but even shy, nervous dogs like Milly, 13 1/2 years old Damatian, can benefit at a vet's surgery if provided with a comfy rug during quiet times of surgery. Milly always shakes and trembles initially and then sits down bit more relaxed whilst Kara always goes to sleep.

10 year old Kara fully relaxing into her acupuncture treatment. Fortunately no social distancing from her was necessary. As she was such a model patient the presence of her owner in the treatment room was not needed at all. Kara is doing very well on nutraceuticals, a combination of joint supplements with anti-inflammatory herbs and occasional acupuncture. As back-up in case of sudden aggravation of osteoarthritis symptoms - pain, stiffness and lameness- her owner also keeps some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs at hand.

over 2 months no house visits for acupuncture...in fact I was not working at all. Charlie did well in general but recently may have over strained his joints and muscles swimming too much one day and had a bit of a relapse.
We hope a few top-up treatments will benefit him. He was amazingly well behaved. His owner had to get to work and left the house and Charlie just continued to snooze. He is always sooo looking forward to his pate or other treats and greets me like his best long lost friend

Charlie very settled and relaxed and in a cuddly mood tonight during his treatment session.

Charlie is on a coctail of highly dosed pain meds for severe arthritis especially in his right elbow. His owners embarked on a trial of acupucture treatments to see whether we can achieve a higher level of comfort with less medication. Time will tell.....he will have weekly sessions for at least 4 weeks and top ups as required if his quality of life is improving. Charlie was very fond of the liver pate and treats I brought along!

Kelly family all looking pretty after Cookie's 4th acupuncture session. She is a lot more comfortable and we are cutting pain meds right down now and her owners will gradually increase exercise and regularly do some of the physio exercises that I demonstrated. I may see Cookie back for top up sessions if necessary.
