All registered providers of health and care are required to “have and adhere to policies, designed for the individual’s care and provider organisations that will help to prevent and control infections” - Criterion 9 of the Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and associated guidance (2015).

Policies are over-arching documents which are frequently supported by underpinning protocols and procedures – including Standard Operating Procedures – that give individual staff guidance and support whilst undertaking a range of interventions in a methodical way.

These SOPs are written to provide both an action and a rationale for the action in a step by step approach where this is appropriate. This provides staff with an explanation so that they understand exactly why they are expected to undertake the procedure in a certain way. This supports appropriate working practices.

IPS provide individual Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) for your facility to buy at £25.00 each. Some examples of our range are 'Specimen Collection and Handling', 'Aseptic Technique/Basic Wound Care', 'Isolation Procedures', 'Adult Urinary Catheterisation Policy' and 'Urinary Catheter Care Plan'.

Do we need to provide any equipment?
No, we take all the equipment with us including the screen, projector, hand hygiene kit and all training packs allocated to each session.

Do staff get individual certificates?
Yes, all Surgery Staff get individual certificates. We also give one ‘SURGERY’ certificate naming all the attendees and the course title (this is for ease of CQC inspections).

Should my Cleaner be involved in the non-clinical training?
We recommend your Cleaner(s) do attend the training. They can also get an Infection Prevention & Control Workbook which should help them gain some further understanding of infection control, which can be very beneficial to Surgeries.

What is a Cleaner's Infection Prevention Control Workbook?
This is a complete, comprehensive workbook (includes cleaning schedule examples) which we can bring with us and take your Cleaner(s) through it, and assist where they may have questions. This Workbook and added service is an additional £40.00. Your cleaner will also get a certificate.

A fundamental element of the services we provide is our ability to provide clients with the expertise of our staff on either an ad hoc or an ongoing consultancy basis.

As highly experienced, knowledgeable specialist nurses from a wide range of healthcare backgrounds, the infection control team provide expertise to health and social care providers and commissioners all over the UK. All of our nurses have post-basic professional qualifications in IPC as well as teaching qualifications.

The aim of infection control consultancy services is client-specific. Services can be short, medium or long-term, with our longest running NHS client contract now in its 11th year. Our infection control specialists work across the spectrum of bandings for specialist nurses – from band 7 – band 8b – depending on the services required by clients. Some clients require us to work as members of an existing team. We may be requested to lead and develop an existing team and we may be required to establish a service where none currently exists – this has been demonstrated most clearly in Clinical Commissioning Groups over the past 3 years.
