We are excited to be taking part in the Great Poldens Mangelwurzelloff - a new event taking place this year. Local people have been given seeds to grow and the results will be entered into a competition later in the year. Some of the categories suggested are the biggest, longest, gnarliest and most like its grower! There will also be recipe tips and a chance to sample this heritage vegetable - Mangelwurzel soup at the cafe anyone?

This week’s profile is of AK. A loves music and can be found ringing the hand chimes in our weekly group, throwing herself into singing and playing at Sounds Joyful and dancing at the Crispin Hall disco. She makes the highly popular Belgian buns for the cafe and works as a waitress there. A’s long-time ambition has been to work with horses and she is now attending Eastfields of Bower Hill on a Wednesday where she gets to ride, groom, feed and muck out ( not her favourite!) while working towards a Horse Care qualification. She loves helicopters and rainbows and is well liked for her sunny and kind nature to all.

Bakeability Cafe open on Thursdays at Bawdrip Parish Hall from 12-2.30 ( last orders 2pm).

We are often very busy, especially between 12-1pm, which is lovely! If you are a new customer, please be aware that we are training our members, all of whom have learning disabilities, to take leading roles at the cafe, with staff there in a supporting role. Our kitchen is also tiny! This may mean that there are inevitable delays at times and occasionally mistakes will happen. We tell our young people that mistakes are how we learn! We are extremely grateful for the patience and understanding of our customers.

Any goods left over at the end of the day will be put into our Too Brill to Bin boxes for sale on Friday. Prices will range per box depending on contents and will be available from Cossington Village Hall between 11-12 am or from Devon House in Bawdrip between 4.30 - 5.30 ( please note revised time) We will post the number of boxes available on a Thursday evening. Help us in the fight against food waste!

Important notice!

No bread or cake orders this week ( Fri 23rd) as we are catering for an event in Cossington.

Back to normal on Friday 30th, which will also be the date for the Soup Stop at Cossington.

Introducing the newest member of the Stepping Out team. Rhubarb is an 8 week old Labrador puppy belonging to our directors Justin and Sue. They are hoping to train her to become a therapy dog for Stepping Out and today she met some of our members for the first time.

This week’s profile is of HP. H’s timetable is based around communication and life skills. He spends much of his day engaged in Intensive Interaction with his support staff - this is a communication method whereby the communication partner follows the lead of the person and tries to maintain the back and forth exchanges which are vital to social communication. H also has a task to sweep the hall at Cossington every morning and often helps tidy up at the end of the day. He enjoys swimming and going out into the community, where his confidence is growing all the time. He’s a fun-loving young man with a great sense of humour.
