Our spring newsletter dropped yesterday, where I shared my song of the season - Les Fleurs by Minnie Riperton. It’s one of my all-time favourite songs, and I love how big and expansive it is, like an explosion of love and hope. That feels very much like spring to me.

Do you have a song of the season? What does spring feel like to you? Let us know in the comments!

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

This week, we spend a bit of time watching a majestic cormorant drying its wings. Unlike many other water birds, cormorants don’t have fully waterproof feathers. This means they are less buoyant underwater, allowing them to dive more efficiently. When they are above water, you will often see them with their wings outstretched like this, allowing the sun to evaporate the water from their feathers so they can then fly more efficiently and keep warm. Amazing!

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

Join me this week as we play around in an icy puddle that is just so satisfying to crack, and marvel at the way the spray from the powerful Reekie Linn waterfall catches the light.

I can’t believe it’s already been over a week since our Forest Bathing Guide Gathering in Grantown-on-Spey, organised by the lovely Cath from .quietlife

We had the most wonderful time wandering through beautiful woodland in glorious weather, taking turns to share invitations and experiences. We also had fun printing cyanotypes, whittling wood and playing games together in the evening, which brought plenty of laughter!

Thank you to my fellow guides, and to nature for a wonderfully restorative weekend.🌿✨💙💛💚

We're back at Argaty, but this time we're in the squirrel hide, watching lots of lovely little birds blending into the background as they feed en mass. I love the sound of their little chirps and the soft flutter of their wings as they take flight together🐦

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

A couple of weeks ago, we marvelled at hair ice and icicles clinging to the rock face along the river. This week, we’re a bit further upstream, exploring some very resilient icicles that have formed on roots jutting out along the river’s edge, created just by the river spray. Amazing!

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

Join me for a relaxing stroll on a gorgeous day full of sunshine and beautiful woodland colours. We find welcome signs of spring, navigate natural obstacles and meet some lovely trees, including a scots pine - one of my favourite trees and inspiration for my business name.

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

Join me this week as we discover hair ice! A relatively rare phenomenon that requires a specific set of conditions to form: moist air, temperatures just below zero, and the presence of the fungus Exidiopsis effusa. Very cool! (Sorry, couldn’t help the pun! 😁)

If you look closely at the rock face alongside the river, you might also see lots of icicles clinging on to the side there.

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

This week we visited Argaty Red Kites to watch the incredible sights and sounds of red kites diving and swooping as they feed and fend off the competition. These beautiful birds of prey were once extinct in Scotland, but have made an amazing comeback following successful reintroduction programmes like the one here at Argaty.

If you get the chance to visit and see them feeding, I highly recommend it! Here at Argaty they have also been busy with a beaver reintroduction programme, and if you join one of their tours you can see the amazing work the beavers have done to increase biodiversity, improve water quality and help protect against flooding.

Thank you, Ranger Ollie, for the fascinating tour!

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

This week we take some time to stop and appreciate the sound of the birds in the beautiful winter sun. I love the way the green needle foliage of the Scots Pine stands out amongst the bright blue sky, and the way the sunlights brings out the reddy brown colours of the vegetation all around. Just stunning 💖

Monday Mindful Moment 🌿 ✨

We're back in the beautiful Balloch Castle Country Park among the birds and satisfyingly crunchy gravel. As our bold robin friend continues to follow me in case I have something to offer, I'm delighted to meet a tree I've never met before - a Tulip Tree - so called because they apparently produce tulip looking flowers. I'll need to come back later in the year to see these for myself.
