A comfort zone is where you feel safe and comfortable I.e. eating the same meal in the same restaurant each time. To get out of your comfort zone may feel unsafe but this is where personal growth can happen. I.e. you may choose to try a new meal or new restaurant and get more pleasure than the regular meal and restaurant. You may really dislike it but learn it wasn't the worst thing in the world, meaning you are still safe. This may lead you try try other new things, knowing you'll still be safe regardless of the outcome.

If you view things in a negative light (glass half empty), you'll naturally feel the urge to control with the aim to making things the best they can possibly be whereas if you view things more positively (glass half full), you may be more trusting that things will work out therefore able to let go of that control and feeling more comfortable in letting things be.
