I learnt this during psychology training years ago and I've always used it with my kids - my mum even commented on it once... 'Rachael why do you say "keep the drink inside the cup? ".. Because the alternative is don't SPILL IT and the brain doesn't hear the don't part.
At mealtimes with messy foods I'd say 'keep your clothes clean' it's not fool proof but it definitely works 🥰
